Breathing Better Living Well

Welcome to the January update from
Breathing Better Living Well!

It's great to see you here again! Thank you for opening this email and thanks especially for joining us in this new year - 2010 - The Year of Lung.

Last month BBLW joyfully celebrated the five-year anniversary of our "big break," being featured as the Good Housekeeping Site of the Day on December 9, 2004. Since then
Breathing Better Living Well has experienced steady growth. Sure, we've come a long way, meeting many of our goals -- but are we there yet? Nope, not even close. We've still got lots of work to do to help you breathe better and stay as healthy and happy as possible. For us -- as well as for you -- this is just the beginning!

We've got some exciting things to tell you about this month. Here we go...

"Ask the RT" - Respiratory Therapist Q & A
Do you ever feel like you'd just like just sit down with a respiratory therapist and pick their brain about lung-related stuff? Well, thanks to our brand new team of RT's, you can do just that. Our
"Ask the RT" forum is staffed by one or two of our six RT's each day of the week. Just go on to our Community page and you'll find the forum. As always, anybody and everybody can read all the great info in our Community page, but to ask a question or make a comment, you have to become a member. This is easy to do and of course, free of charge. So, come on in and get to know Larry, Jen, Sandy, Craig, Kim and Jane (that's me). We'd love to hear from you!

New Caregiver Forum
Our Community is buzzing...not only with the addition of "Ask the RT" along with our ever present moderating team, but with another
new forum, "Caregivers' Window."
Being a caregiver and / or wellspouse to a person with COPD or other chronic lung disease is not easy. You need information and support, too! Stop in and chat with Ray and Lori. Believe me, they've been there, and they have a wealth of knowledge to share, a listening ear, and shoulder to lean on.

COPD Myths - Busted!
Do you ever hear people say something and wonder what the real deal is, asking yourself, "Is that really true?" My latest article on Health Central,
Living With COPD: Ten Myths - Busted! takes a look at things commonly said about COPD. Check is out and see if you have it right... or if you're busted. You can always find my last ten articles on Health Central from the widget at the bottom of our home page or you can click here for complete list of my articles on Health Central. Coming soon...a series of personal stories about Denial.

'Ease' Stent for COPD
Many of you are asking about the
new Stent for COPD Here's a great link to a video that shows you just how it works.

Resource Guide
Looking for a way to get through your day and still have your breath? Here is the Alpha-1 / COPD Education Day Resource Guide from my presentation, “At Least 43 Tips and Tricks to Help You Breathe Easier Everyday.”

We're on Facebook!
Yep, that's right. After everybody telling me it would be a great idea for BBLW to have a page I finally broke down and joined the wonderful world of Facebook. Come see our
BBLW Facebook page for photos, links, and more that you might not find on our site.

Massage for COPD?
That's right. In our "All About Living" Blog, Peg, another member of our BBLW team, shares with us what works wonders to get rid of tightness and tension and improve her breathing. Read
Peg’s blog about massage. Hint: You’ve just gotta see the picture!

Struggling with Quitting?
If you or a loved one is struggling with quitting smoking, here's a book that might help -- Breathwish: A Scriptural Guide to Smoking Cessation and Understanding COPD. In it Respiratory Therapist, Craig Ammerall, looks at smoking addiction from a Christian perspective. Don't worry, this book is not at all "preachy!" Craig's approach is really interesting, but more important than that (and I've been told by those who know) it really helps! Take a look and share it with a friend, your local library, or your church group. BBLW you can find
new and used, deep-discount books in our bookstoreHere’s how it works: The “Amazon” button for each book will take you to that book’s main page on Amazon – but if you click on the title of that book that's in blue font and underlined (on our bookstore page), it will take you directly to that page on Amazon with choices for reduced prices. Remember, if you enter Amazon through any portal on our site, your order of anything – anything at all – will send a few pennies our way to help support this site.

Featured in our Breathing Better Living Well bookstore this month are:

  • Breathwish: A Scriptural Guide to Smoking Cessation and Understanding COPD
  • The Good Doctor's Guide to Colds and Flu
  • The Germ Freak’s Guide to Outwitting Colds and Flu

Well, that's about all for now. Remember, my friends, this is just the beginning. We're here for you today and we hope to be for a long time to come.

Breathe well today and I’ll see you soon!
