Dear Orange Lutheran Parents / Legal Guardians & Students,

We thank you for your ongoing partnership and patience as we continue to diligently evaluate and faithfully respond to new and evolving information in our current environment. As noted in the Return to Campus Overview, and as shared in last Thursday’s Community Update publication, we continue to evaluate elements of the plan, including a possible revision of the calendar, and a delay to the date on which school will begin. We also continue to closely monitor and pursue every opportunity to continue with our tiered plans and options available to families as announced on Tuesday, July 14th.

Due to the factors outlined below, Orange Lutheran has made the decision to delay the start of the school year with the first official day of school to now occur on Monday, August 31. As a result of this change, the decision to announce which tier the school year will begin in will now be announced during the week of August 17, instead of the previously communicated date of August 3. The August 17 start date for Orange Lutheran Online (OLO) courses has not changed.

The newest version of the 2020-2021 school calendar can be found HERE and applicable dates have been modified in the Return to Campus Overview document. Due to this change, the Lancer Kick Off Days and New Student Orientation events that precede the first day of school have also been moved back. Please also take note of other changes that have occurred on the calendar as a result of moving the start date back by two weeks.

The following factors were analyzed in this decision:
  • The opportunity to consider and explore all available channels and options for the return of in-person learning on campus.
  • The potential of less time spent in a remote environment if the school year is to begin in a remote environment.
  • The opportunity to lengthen the monitoring of statistics related to Orange County on the state of California’s epidemiological watch list.
  • Academic opportunities and impacts.
  • Extracurricular activity calendars, recent modifications, and future opportunities.
  • The voice and best interest of our community.
Overall, we thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to prioritize and prayerfully lift up students, families, and the OLu faculty and staff in all decisions. We look forward to the future opportunities that the Lord will bless us with no matter the circumstances so that relationships can be formed, rekindled, and nurtured in and through the mission of Orange Lutheran High School.

Should you have any questions regarding this information, please contact the Orange Lutheran Response Team at May the Lord continue to guide your family with His peace during this time.
