It starts with education

Accelerating the shift to Planetary Culture is an audacious goal. One that constantly challenges us to look for leverage points, i.e., to ask, where can collective action be applied to greatest effect? 

This month we explore the role education can play as just such a powerful leverage point – but only if we broaden what we mean by education (hint: it’s more than just schools!) and make substantive shifts in both how we do education and what is transmitted through the educational process.

Our latest blog article invites you to consider the possibility that education, broadly conceived, can play an essential role in driving and sustaining the changes needed to avert planetary crises.

Is Education the Key to Accelerating the Shift?

In times of great change and crisis our educational systems face challenges, and this is such a time. But education is about more than just schools, it's about transmitting culture from one generation to the next. This month’s blog considers not only the problems in education, but also the larger role education can play in cultural change. It closes with an invitation to action: the ALL Careers Contest exhibits many of the key shifts highlighted in the blog article and offers those of you in Boulder County a chance to support an important local project.

We'd like to thank Highland City Club for hosting us this past week, it was wonderful to share and hear your ideas about the shifts of consciousness underway in our culture today.

Our online Planet Community continues to grow. In October, community members shared their perspectives on several questions related to Democracy and Voting and suggested additional change agents and cultural expressions that have enriched the Democracy and Voting resources page and our curated databases.
