Focusing On Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing problems we face today. We’ve all seen the heart-breaking pictures of oceans befouled by plastics and marine animals dying slowly, but the problem is much bigger than the oceans – read this month’s blog for a more complete picture.

We all care, right? So, what can we do that will actually turn this around? We can blame others or expect others to solve the problem, but our belief is that we the people can take a big bite out of plastic pollution just by the everyday choices we make as consumers.

In that spirit we are initiating the Plastics Campaign, and we’ll spend the next month exploring the issue of plastics, and sharing knowledge and best practices from our community.  That’s you! So, join the discussion in the Planet Online Community, or contact us at staff@planetproject.io. We want to find out what the most effective actions are that we can each take, and then make that knowledge widely available to people everywhere. If enough people take the right actions, we can turn this around, so we hope you’ll join us in co-creating and growing the Plastics Campaign.

Sincerely,
The Team at the Planet Project

The Ocean Cleanup

Staff Pick: The Ocean Cleanup

The Ocean Cleanup is developing cleanup systems that can clean up the floating plastics caught swirling in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. They also developed the first scalable solution to efficiently intercept plastic in rivers before it reaches the oceans. Learn more about The Ocean Cleanup here.

Staff Pick: Canada's Ban on Single-Use Plastics Will Begin in 2022

The ban will apply to checkout bags, ring carriers for cans and bottles, stir sticks, utensils, takeout containers, and straws, removing an estimated 33 billion units of single-use plastics from entering the environment each year. Read the article here.
