A Letter from the President

Our 2021 fall semester is moving toward a successful conclusion. I write with a progress report for parents and news of a special program that AU will launch in a few weeks. As your AU son or daughter returns home for the holiday break, I want you to have information about the university’s plans in the weeks ahead. We value our partnership with families as we continue to work together to support the educational aspirations of our students.

AU students worked hard this fall to adjust to our “new normal.” Our faculty and staff watched their progress, applauded their efforts, and listened to their concerns. Now we are reaching out with a carefully crafted opportunity to master vital skills and to acquire important information. Better yet, they actually can lower their spring semester bills by participating in our January Jumpstart program.

The new program will consist of a series of workshops that will be delivered online from 4–6 January 2022. Each will be offered multiple times to accommodate busy schedules. Students must enroll by Friday, 17 December to participate. All is free. In fact, students who complete three workshops will receive $500 credits on their spring bills. Your student has more information, but please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

The subject matter will be wide-ranging. Some sessions will focus on improving crucial college success skills — such as notetaking or time and stress management. Other opportunities will include tips on topics such as gaining valuable internship experiences or interview preparations. Subject matter was developed on the basis of student comments and suggestions, so it will be relevant to all AU undergraduates.

Now we need your help to ensure that your student enrolls and completes the workshops. Those who complete three sessions will receive $500 credits on their spring bills. (And maybe you will even decide to pull up a chair and attend too.) At AU, we are always here to help. As I close, please accept my warm wishes for a joyful and peace-filled December. We look forward to welcoming the new year with you and your AU student.
