A Message from the Dean
Greetings from Dunham Hall:
I hope you and your family had an enjoyable Independence Day celebration! Now that we are past the midpoint of summer, I am sure you are starting to plan for the fall term. Are you registered yet? If not, you can secure a seat in fall 2021 or spring 2022 courses by registering via WebAdvisor or contacting your academic advisor for assistance. You can schedule an appointment via Handshake or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have you considered on-campus housing this year? It's not too late to apply for housing directly or via the Okta login page by selecting "Apply for Housing." If you have any questions, please reach out to the Office of Residence Life at email@example.com or 630-844-7881.
In today’s newsletter, I’d like to draw your attention to the 2021–2022 Forward Together plan and the FAQs relating to the upcoming academic year. Dr. Amy Gray, vice president for student life, recently emailed everyone noting that AU is instituting a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for students, faculty, and staff for the 2021–2022 academic year. This applies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to anyone who intends to be physically at any of the university campus locations for any period. Students and faculty who participate in fully online programs, and who have no plan to be on campus, are exempt from this requirement, but are still highly encouraged to get vaccinated.
It is expected that students provide documentation of full vaccination status as soon as possible but no later than Sunday, August 15, 2021. To submit documentation, email a copy of your vaccination card to firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks following either the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the second dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. For more specific information about the vaccine, visit the State of Illinois Vaccine FAQ page. To find a vaccine near you, visit vaccines.gov.
The university will consider granting exemptions for medical reasons or due to religious and strongly held personal convictions. The form to request an exemption is located here. Students requesting an exemption should email the completed exemption form by Monday, August 2, 2021, to email@example.com. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and students will be notified in a timely manner of the status of each request.
More information about the vaccination requirement, including the process for submitting proof of vaccination, or for requesting an exemption, can be found at aurora.edu/vaccineFAQ. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org with any additional questions.
Graduation Application Deadline (Summer 2021)
The graduation application for summer 2021 graduates is open via WebAdvisor. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 13, 2021. Summer graduates will participate in commencement on Saturday, December 11, 2021. All graduates are required to complete the graduation application regardless of participation in a ceremony. More information about commencement will be emailed to graduation candidates this fall.
Coming this Fall
Expanded Campus Dining
In addition to Tru Blu Dining (Alumni Hall) and the Spartan Spot, the newly branded Tru Blu Coffee will reopen in the Institute for Collaboration. These campus options will make dining even more convenient for resident and commuter students.
Hill Center for Student Success
The new center will be home to Career Services, offering students counsel, guidance, and inspiration to ensure a successful transition from campus to career. The center will also include Spartan Attic, a closet with free professional clothing and accessories that are appropriate for interviews, internships, and work settings.
Sundays@7 Career Conversations with Alumni
This popular program will return and will include two programs featuring AU students talking about internship opportunities and sharing tips for your job search.
There is a lot going on. It is an exciting time to be a Spartan! If you have any questions or need support, you are always welcome to contact me directly.
