A Message from the Dean
Dear Students:
The end of fall break marks the midpoint of the fall semester. As a former basketball coach, I often view this time similar to halftime of a game. It’s a good opportunity to take stock of where you are. What has been working for you during the first half of the semester, what hasn’t, and what do you need to be successful for the second half of the semester? Here are some tips:
- Make appointments to talk one-on-one with faculty members teaching your classes. Remember…your faculty members are here to help you. They are your best resource.
- Learn more about academic support services offered across campus. The Academic Support Center, located in Phillips Library, offers a number of services from academic coaching to tutoring services to writing support.
- Form a study group in a class that seems challenging. There are group study spaces located around campus, including in Phillips Library, the Hill Center for Student Success, and the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action. Some spots even have free snacks!
- Mange your time differently by refocusing on completing your courses with a strong showing.
You can also take a break from your studies on Wednesday, October 27, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. for “Fall Fest on the Quad.” Join the AU community for an afternoon of food trucks, music, and activities. It’s sure to be lots of fun! Of course, the fall season is also an opportunity to gather for athletic games, including watching our student-athletes in action. Check out the athletic events calendar and cheer on your favorite Spartan team!
Finally, a reminder: The last day to drop fall semester classes with an automatic “W” is Sunday, November 7. If you have questions about this, feel free to reach out to your academic advisor.
Be well and stay safe, Spartans!
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Buckley, EdD
Dean, School of Education
