A Message from the Dean

Dear Students:

On August 26, Governor Pritzker issued an Executive Order that requires all higher education personnel, students, and any person employed, contracted, or volunteering at a school district to be vaccinated. As you are aware, the university made this a requirement for all faculty, staff, and students before the semester even began. Earlier last week, Dr. Amy Gray, vice president for student life, sent out communication to students indicating that if they are not vaccinated, they will be sent information about weekly surveillance testing that will be offered by the university to comply with the Governor’s mandate.
In the School of Education, we are seeing an increase in school districts we work closely with asking for documentation of our students’ vaccination status prior to completing methods or a student teaching experience. To that end, we are requiring that all initial licensure candidates submit a copy of their vaccination card or exemption form to Lynn Streit, coordinator of initial licensure, at
Initial licensure students will be required to not only comply with Aurora University requirements regarding COVID-19, but also the requirements of the district in which you are placed. Faculty and staff in the School of Education will continue to communicate with you as we learn of district requirements. As we live through this novel virus, we understand that things are ever-changing. Our goal is to continue to communicate with you to keep you abreast of any changing requirements. Safety is always our number one priority at AU. If you have any further questions about this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Be well and stay safe, Spartans.
