Nude is the New Black.

On Tuesday morning David Jones launched their Spring Summer collection. On the menu: every possible shade of nude – and all its cousins – camel, cream, taupe, khaki and mustard served with a large helping of coral and turquoise. Dreamy. Floaty. Sexy. Summer is on the way.

The show returned to its original pared down format and was held in the flagship Sydney store. The retailer ditched a big venue in favour of big models (names not size) with Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Nicole Trunfio creating an Aussie trinity that any international runway would be proud of. Yes Miranda wasn’t there and yes, there was an elephant in the room but the above mentioned girls did their job and made sure that the clothes stole the show.

I asked two of my favourite magazine women – Editor, Lizzie Renkert and Fashion Director, Fiona Kowalski from madison – about the show, the season and what you’ll want in your wardrobe this summer.

On My Shopping List

So nude is huge. Prints too. And the dress – tunic, bubble, wrap, drape, maxi – is in every imaginable colour. Making the cut on my must-have list from the show: a digital print kaftan from Camilla Frank, a coral cocktail dress by Thurley (so sexy from the back), a nude one-piece by Zimmermann and an urban ombre shift by Scanlan and Theodore. All clothes are available at David Jones nationally and instore mid-August. Make sure you pick up a copy of the catalogue – or download it here – starring Miranda and Nicole T. It’s had a redesign and with much more of a magazine feel, its a great way to navigate the season.

I Want Her…Everything

Working around models all my life I’ve become anesthetised to the freakish gene-pool-lottery that makes these woman uber-beautiful. It’s probably a self-preservation tactic but every so often a girl comes along and renders me speechless. Abbey Lee is one of them. She is spectacular. And getting better as she grows up. Her new bob (aided by some extra hair I’m sure) was the post-show twitter and I’m certain that a few of the front row have already booked in for a Kob.

The show had three distinct make-up looks directed by Japanese make-up master Uchiide for Shu Uemura. My favourite was the golden, glow created exclusively for Abbey. Here are the hero products to try (buy)- the Stage Performer Immediate Radiance Perfecting Cream is incredible:

Shu Uemura is available at selcted David Jones stores or call (02) 9931 8888 for your nearest stockist.

Camilla and Marc Debut

Brother and sister design duo, Camilla and Marc Freeman made their debut for David Jones this week (crossing over from Myer) and took out the honour of opening the show. I absolutely loved their collection when I saw it at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and their range (along with a standout year from Zimmermann) were the highlights in the David Jones line-up. I spoke with Camilla and Marc just before their RAFW show – here’s the inspiration behind their summer vision (and yes, I did order the jacket). You can view the full Camilla &Marc collection here.

PS: Went to Myer Spring Summer launch last night. Over 300 exits (that’s fashion speak for number of outfits on the runway), models painted in gold, Jennifer Hawkins, Jessica Hart and Dannii Minogue’s BabyDaddy Kris Smith …but more on that next week.
