GOLDFINCH Launches 9/18/16 with Solo Exhibition by Sherwin Ovid
Dear Friends,

I'm truly excited to announce the launch of GOLDFINCH, a new contemporary project space at 319 N. Albany in E. Garfield Park. GOLDFINCH seeks to provide compelling physical, conceptual, and discursive frameworks for contemporary visual practices through exhibitions, artists’ talks, informal salon discussions, and the written word. Located in an 800 square foot ground floor space that's surrounded by dozens of artists’ studios, GOLDFINCH brings an experimental, studio-like sense of curiosity and play to its exhibition planning. Our program doesn't aim for branded recognizability; instead, we embrace fluidity, contingency, and a sense of productive unpredictability by encompassing a broad range of artistic formats. To keep things as free-flowing and inclusive as possible, our exhibitions are developed in conjunction with a programmatic advisory board composed of independent curators and artists, each of whom brings their distinct vision, practice, and agenda to our open-ended space. This year's curatorial advisors include
Ellen Hartwell Alderman, Matt Morris, Thea Liberty Nichols, Anastasia Karpova Tinari, and Samantha Topol, with exhibitions organized by Anastasia Karpova Tinari and Matt Morris slated for this coming 2016-17 season.

I hope you'll join me in celebrating the opening of GOLDFINCH'S first exhibition, a
solo show of work by Sherwin Ovid on view from September 18 - October 30, 2016. Ovid is making incredibly gorgeous mixed-media paintings that you may have seen recently in the group exhibition “Known Unknowns: Painting in Chicago" at the College of DuPage's Cleve Carney Art Gallery, and in last year's iteration of The Annual, which I co-curated for the Chicago Artists Coalition. Our opening reception will take place on Sunday, September 18, from  3-7 pm. Please RSVP to the event on our Facebook page (and please "like" us while you're there, so we can keep you posted on upcoming GOLDFINCH exhibitions and programs). Exhibition viewing hours are Saturdays from 12-4pm. You'll find additional information about the exhibition below; please don't hesitate to contact me at claudine@goldfinchgallery.org for further information. I look forward to sharing Sherwin's work with you in person very soon.

With warmest regards,

Claudine Isé
