Fall Boating Season - Oh so Sweet!
Every September Seward changes from a hustle and bustle tourist town into the mellow and charming Port town that we all love.  The type of tourist you see walking around town no longer is off a cruise ship, but is more likely to be an Alaskan from another part of the state finally over the busy working season and able to spend a little time traveling in their home state before winter sets in.

Around the harbor is a different vibe too.  Days are often spent puttering on projects and nights are spent on board at the docks.  Boaters and fishermen take on an island type pace and happily chat about the wonderful past boating season and hopes for the next.  The urge to need to go on just one more overnight is at bay and just being on your boat, getting a few things ticked off the to do list is a weekend well spent.  Without the crowds and traffic a quite afternoon can be spent exploring town, or maybe one of the many hiking trails we are fortunate to have an abundance of here in Seward.  No longer do you need to wait in line at your favorite Seward dining establishment or circle the harbor area looking for a parking spot.  If you're lucky enough to get to spend some time in Seward this September you'll surely notice that all the folks around town are just simply savoring the sweet days of Fall.    Arin Ortman

Seward Music and Arts Festival

The Seward Arts Council is thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Seward Music and Arts Festival September 27, 28, and 29 in Seward, Alaska at the  Dale R. Lindsey Alaska Railroad Intermodal Facility – a heated, indoor venue.

Having originated in the fall of 2004, the Seward Music and Arts Festival has evolved and expanded immensely in its 10 years. Held the last weekend of each September, the festival is an anticipated celebration for both locals and visitors to conclude the busy summer season.

“It’s like planning a big party for Seward after all the summer mayhem has subsided… and all your friends are invited,” says Gail Burnard, the general director of the festival. “This being our tenth anniversary… it’s gonna be a big one!”

The Seward Music and Arts Festival continues its commitment to youth involvement, education, and creative inspiration. The Seward Arts Council promotes a family-oriented festival with children’s activities and artist’s projects throughout the weekend; including the creation of a mural-in-a-day by members of the Seward Mural Society and a community art show.

The Seward Music and Arts Festival promotes Alaskan-made arts and crafts by welcoming nearly 30 vendors to operate at the festival, as well as allowing attendees the opportunity to place bids on many different goods and services donated by local businesses in a silent auction. Attendees also have access to a diverse food court, with a beer garden available for the 21+ crowd.
