|Grow2CEO Winners 2019
Last Wednesday we celebrated the final of Grow2CEO 2019 at Grow HQ in Waterford with one school heading off with the grand prize worth €5000. From the 51% of secondary schools in Ireland who entered we managed to whittle down to 3 finalists. We invited the finalists, Gort Community College from Galway, St Vincent's from Cork City and St Colmans from Midleton Co. Cork to come and present their business plan and soup which they had created from the spinach seeds they had planted. We were bowled over by the amazing presentations by all three schools.
St Colman’s presented their soup recipe with only 23 food miles to the judges table. They used an old fuel pump as the logo to show it's low food miles & chose a glass milk bottle as their packaging. Gort Community College presented their soup to the judges & talked about reaching out to their community to get advise from bank managers, local chefs, growers & local markets to learn about starting up a food business and shared all they learnt about growing their own food. St Vincent’s Secondary School gave their spicy soup to the panel of judges & told them about their soup shack in school, their compostable & reusable packaging & how they made bio-domes to grow their spinach.
In the end it was Gort Community College that went home with the coveted prize with a value of €5000. A SOUPer congratulations to all involved at Gort Community College and well done to all the schools that took part. We saw some amazing work from all 363 secondary schools in Ireland.
