If you read these weekly messages, you know that I often use them to promote something that is happening at First Baptist Church. Not today! Today I’d like to use my space to promote something that is happening at another Baptist Church in our community. I’d like to encourage many of you to invest $15* and three hours of your time to link arms with a sister church – Shiloh Baptist in Tarrytown.
On Saturday, June 5, from 9:00 am. until noon, I ask you to join me for breakfast at the Knights of Columbus Hall on 114 N. Washington Street. This isn’t just any breakfast mind you. It is the 125th Anniversary Prayer Breakfast of the Shiloh Baptist Church. The Guest speaker will be talking about the sustaining power of prayer. No, I’m not the guest speaker. But I want to be there because our brothers and sisters at Shiloh have invited us.
I don’t know when the last time was that our two churches did something together. But I know our churches have worked together in the past. I understand that 125 years ago, the dedication service for Shiloh Baptist was held in our church building. Now we have the opportunity to come together to celebrate, rejoice and pray for God to do even greater things in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
If you’re interested in ordering tickets for the breakfast, you can contact Dorothy Farley at (914) 909-0992. I can’t tell you that I know anything more about the program. I can’t even vouch for the food, although I suspect it’ll be delicious. But I’m confident that God will bless us as we come together on June 5 to worship as part of His larger church.
* Kids 11 and under can eat for $7.
