An Encouraging Word...
It’s winter. It’s dark. It’s cold. It’s snowing. So what else is new? As we approach mid-winter, it is easy to get down. Doctors even have a name for mid-winter depression. They call it SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Sometimes February, the shortest month of the year, can seem like the longest.
So I want to give us all a challenge that will help to make the month of February truly exciting. Why not make February the month we decide to allow God to do something amazing through us? Why not let God use us to change someone’s life?
Last Sunday, in I Corinthians chapter 1, we observed the power of the Gospel to change people’s lives. My challenge to our entire church family, during the month of February, is to identify one person for whom we ask God to give us the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus. Just pick one person and pray for them daily. Then look for, and try to arrange chances to talk to them about spiritual things. This could truly be the biggest risk any of us will take all year. It may well be the most rewarding.
So beat the winter blahs! Take the challenge! Pick a friend, neighbor or family member who needs to know God and make it our business to talk with them about Him. Let’s dare to let God use us to make the coldest and darkest time of year the warmest, brightest and possibly the happiest of all.
Accountability is a good thing. If you want to take the February challenge along with me, shoot me a quick e-mail with the first name of the person for whom you are praying and I will commit to pray with you for that individual.
