An Encouraging Word...

Try to Picture This…
They say, “A Picture is worth a thousand words.”  They say, “That’s as pretty as a picture.”  They say, “I can picture that in my mind.”  I suppose “they” say things like that because pictures are a powerful means of communication.
Sunday, September 12, has been called several different things over the years.  This year, we’re calling it Picture Sunday.  Perhaps you know it best as Friendship Sunday, because we always encourage people to invite their friends to church that day.  Last year, we called it Connections Sunday, because it was a time, at the start of the school year, for people to connect and reconnect after a busy summer.  Of course, some know it as Doug’s famous BBQ Chicken Sunday, because, aside from the Colonel himself and perhaps Bobby Flay, no one makes a tastier barbeque chicken than Doug Morton and his many assistant chefs.
“Why are we calling it Picture Sunday?” you ask.  Well, once again, this year, we encourage you to invite your friends and to feast on delicious barbeque chicken and to reconnect with one other.  But the Sunday that we do all of that is also the Sunday that we help you picture what will be happening in the coming months at FBC.  We hope to give you mental snapshots of the fun and exciting things that are planned at church this fall.  Can you picture what I’m trying to say?  Oh yes, and we’ll be taking one big picture of everyone in the fellowship hall to send to Africa.  That way, as we send off the Africa Team that week, the church in Sierra Leone will be able to picture for themselves the many people who will be praying for them back here.
So here’s what we need you to do to prepare for Picture Sunday.  If you have an A-Team tee shirt, we ask you to wear it or at least bring it to put on for our group picture after church.  If you don’t have an official tee shirt, a black shirt will also work well.  And if you’re a non-conformist or can’t afford a tee shirt, we still want you in the picture.  If you have a friend, bring him or her.  It’ll be a fun day with good food and fellowship thrown in at no extra charge.  Actually, you can help with the food.  We’d like you to sign up to bring your favorite veggie or side dish.
Fun, food, fellowship, friends and a glimpse into the future – can you picture that?  I hope so because that’s what Picture Sunday is all about.  More than that, I hope you will be part of it.  As my friend, Susan Grant likes to say, “Be there or be square.”
