An Encouraging Word...

The Life

Ever read through the gospels and think that’s something missing from your faith?  You’re not alone.  I feel that way too.  After all, look at some of the things that Jesus said:
Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.   For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.  What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?       Luke 9:23-25
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.      John 14:12-14
I read these words and feel like I’m still only seeing the tip of the iceberg with my walk with God - like there’s more that I should be doing, and experiencing.
These passages – in all of their simplicity and grandeur – remind me how important small groups are.  But not because you could have a nice discussion with other Christians in someone’s house about what these words mean and how we could apply them to our lives.  Rather, small group is important because it is perhaps the best pathway we have to begin really livingthese passages.
Our vision for what small groups are keeps evolving.  No longer do we just regard small groups as bible study and fellowship groups.  We are continuing to explore how we can use these groups to do outreach, provide accountability and pray with vision.  In other words, we’re trying to make small groups places that empower us to live the gospel in all its fullness.
