INN NEWS AND NOTES

FRAN SCARLETT NAMED INN DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS & SERVICES

We're very pleased to introduce Fran Scarlett, who joins INN Nov. 17. Fran is a business growth and strategy specialist whose heart has stayed in news since she began her career as a reporter and moved into news product design and business development.

At INN, she will run training, coaching and services to help nonprofit news organizations, one of the fastest-growing segments in digital media. She comes to INN from the Small Business & Technology Development Center at the University of North Carolina and will remain based in Wilmington, NC.

The Lens in New Orleans will have a statewide precinct-level results map on Election Night 2017. "It takes a good deal of technical skill and money to keep current with nearly 4,000 voting precincts statewide. Perhaps that’s why no other news media outlet in Louisiana makes the effort," they write.

Reporters at the Maine Center for Investigative Reporting won three first-place awards from the Maine Press Association this weekend.

Reminder: The deadline to apply for the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma reporting institute and fellowships on guns and gun violence is November 18. INN members in the Midwest are especially invited to apply.
