Hyper Local Super Now

I am so happy to be in Victoria workshopping my new creation.
Dream Another Day ~ reaching into the future, a retrospect of the mess we’re in now at UNO Festival.
This is a dance-theatre-performance mash-up that looks at the Oblique (after the Obvious and Opposite) responses to Hero Worship, Misogyny, Inheritance of Secrecy.

It’s a solo with a few surprises. And it is in development, which means not totally finished and kind of raw and without all the production elements. This is a most exciting time in a creative process; the audience gets to be involved and share their thoughts and reactions which help to shape the work. I am really looking forward to sharing this work. There are two chances to see the show:
Friday May 11th at 7 pm
Saturday May 12th at 8 pm
On Friday, the show will be an hour long. On Saturday, it will be longer. I will use what I’ve learnt on Friday and continue the experiment of it all and see where we end up.
If you're near Victoria, I welcome you to come and see what I’m working on; it’s timely and exciting. And it has had a lot of support locally. A big shout out to Suddenly Dance Theatre who really supported this work at the get go. Then the good folks who’ve donating studio space to the creative cause: Raino Dance, Thrive Yoga, Solwood Studios and Dance Victoria with Suddenly Dance Theatre.
Here’s the intel:

Performing Spontaneous Choreography is an intensive weekend of working together to develop a shared practice and common vocabulary in an improvising context. Working with Solo Body and Group Tuning, we’ll practice creating spontaneous choreography together. Performing Spontaneous Choreography is a glorious mash-up of practices and lineages that creates a framework in which to perform and create.

The workshop draws on the work of Ruth Zaporah (Action Theater), Nina Martin (Lower Left), and Keith Hennessy that I developed for the “dance like no one is watching” project, which re-imagines and disrupts public spaces (parking spots, public plazas, city parks and buses, shop windows, and sidewalks), and has included over 200 dancers in festivals and guerilla appearances across Canada.

The workshop is for advanced students and emerging and professional dancers with some improvisation experience. This is not a contact improv workshop.
