In Calgary collaborator Linnea Swan and I have just led Watermelons for a Rainy Day, Interdisciplinary Solo Making (my part) and dance-film making (her part). She and I are currently editing the video we shot of my work last weekend.

Right before now Stand Up Dance was in Victoria performing dance like no one is watching at SKAMpede Festival with Theatre SKAM in Victoria. We performed a series of dances outside in different locations, delighting intentional audience and passer-by's alike.

Emotional Landscapes

Linnea Swan and I are beginning a new project. It's My Party, exploring grief. Send in your best crying stories, or the unexpected things that make you cry.

Upcoming and Ongoing

Continuing east I'll be in PEI to contemplate and plan a dancefilm / music video set inside this playhouse that has been handed down through the women in my family on the island for 111 years.

I'll also be working with the young company at the Charlottetown Festival, leading a movement workshop to the performers who are from coast to coast to coast of Canada.

Later in the month I'm heading back to my other homeland. I'll be in Ireland on a writing retreat beginning to document the artistic processes and creative knowledge that I've developed through the making and teaching I've been doing for the last 20 years. Of particular interest are the systems in place to create collaborative and spontaneous choreography in Stand Up Dance's longest running project, dance like no one is watching, and the myriad techniques and strategies that I use and fuse in Interdisciplinary Solo Making.

Today is the last day to make a charitable donation to Stand Up Dance through Theatre SKAM and receive a tax receipt.  Please go to Theatre SKAM, choose STAND UP DANCE in the drop-down menu. This opportunity only lasts until Friday August 2nd.

I hope August is full of fruit, fulfillment and fun.

See you on the dancefloor!
