ArtSHIP run helps CVRTC celebrate National Trails Day

This year’s ArtSHIP 10k Run was held in conjunction with National Trails Day in Shippensburg on June 4th. This was the second year that the run, which makes use of the trail for part of its 6.2-mile course, was sponsored by the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council.  Profits from the event go to help support and maintain the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail.

Sunny skies and kind breezes helped many of the 150 competitors turn in some impressive times.  Most importantly, a fun day out was had by all.

Overall top finishers for the women:
            Patricia Blount (45:43)
            Amy Stahlman (46:13)
            Rebecca Jussila (47:49)

Overall top finishers for the men:
            Ethan Miller (37:38)
            Randy Hoon (38:12)
            Dan Rhodes (38:39)

Locals gather for community bicycle safety demonstration and bike ride in Carlisle

The Carlisle Parks and Recreation Department teamed up with the Harrisburg Bicycle Club, the Carlisle Police Department and Dickinson College's Department of Public Safety, to host a bicycle safety demonstration and community bike ride the evening of Tuesday, July 19.

To kick off the event, Rick Nevins, President of the Harrisburg Bicycle Club, presented a $1,000 check to Bob Schmidlein, Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council treasurer. This gift will support CVRT maintenance and trail-side projects such as those completed by Eagle Scout candidates.

Following the presentation of the check, Nevins instructed attendees on bicycle safety, particularly in relation to the use of the new bike lanes in Carlisle. Police officers then answered questions and escorted the riders through downtown Carlisle. Safety guidelines emphasized use of appropriate hand signals and good bicycle conduct in and around traffic.
