Recent Branch News

Flag Day Collection
Thank you so much to all of our volunteers who stood with their buckets on Saturday 4th April.

We also need to thank each and every person who supported us by putting some money in the bucket, saying a quick hello or stopping for a chat.

We covered seven stores and raised a fantastic £3,054.41. Each and every penny will be spent on our local branch activities through the year.

Easter Egg Hunt
We had a wonderful after non on Good Friday with over 40 children enjoying the egg hunt and other activities on offer at Styx.

We need to thank the Island FM Easter Egg appeal in conjunction with Foresters Health care as they donated some of the chocolate eggs. Luckily the rain stopped so that we could all get outside, as well as enjoying Styx's new bouncy castle and slide.

We are looking for some volunteers to help run the charity table or serve tea and coffee, as well as some cake bakers who can donate some cakes to sell.

Autism Resources

Just like You - Autism
Just Like You - Autism” has launched an exciting new campaign that aims to help the communities, our kids and the world to learn, understand and accept those living with autism.

The film's documentary techniques capture the real life stories of 3 children and their best friends/sibling who explain their lives with autism in relatable everyday scenes. The film explains how some people with autism have sensory sensitivities, different behaviors and a different way of understanding the world. The video models how to be a good friend to someone with autism.

We think that this could be a great resource to use with siblings and friends and it could raise a range of different discussion points to help improve the level of understanding and acceptance of the child with autism.

Active for Autism
The NAS have launched a new service, Active for autism, which offers training and consultancy support for sports practitioners. As well as 2 day courses run on the mainland there is also a new online learning module

The module has been created by people who are on the autism spectrum and represents the 'autistic voice'. The module will provide a comprehensive introduction to the autism spectrum focussing on the delivery of sport and physical activity. Recognising and understanding the key areas of difficulty experienced by both the participants and the session leaders is vital to providing effective support.

The module takes between 40-90 minutes to complete and costs £20 for an individual user, or as part of a package rate for organisations.
