Thank you for subscribing to
twomeytravel.com. We are thrilled by your interest and engagement. Hopefully our community will continue to grow and we can dedicate more time to writing about the Americas and Beyond.
In this first letter, we want to provide you with some of our motives behind this site.
After finishing my undergraduate degree in history, I found a job guiding tours around Europe - I actually applied a history degree.
Guiding gave me so much freedom to travel and write. I never did blog, but published my first book;
Ski Canada in 1998.
In 2001 I stepped out to do a graduate degree focused on Latin America. Thus began my love of the Americas.
That lead to a two-year semi-volunteer contract in Southern Chile where I published a tourism training manual for the Chilean Park Service. I lived on the Island of Chiloe and loved every minute of it!
By 2004 I was back tour guiding / tour managing a little in Europe, but mostly North & South America. I also wrote two editions of
Working and Living in Canada for the Sunday Times in the UK.
Little Finn was born in 2006 and by 2008 it was time to leave the road. We took a ‘family sabbatical’ to Europe and I completed a second graduate degree in Paris.
Returning to the Rockies, we opened a restaurant and I worked for economic development in Canmore - not as much fun as it all sounded.… Eventually a term lecturing opportunity arose and almost concurrently I was offered a term in Peru - I left my job, sold the business and flew south!
I wrote my first blog in
Cusco. To my surprise, it was read by 3000 people. So I kept writing.
I now develop and guide tours, as well as lecture and write! Finn often travels with me. :-)
Working with Helena is an absolute pleasure. She loves the technical side, is open to ideas and of course loves writing and travel. Even better, our children are friends! Obviously we do want to find a way to make all this work economically sustainable - and are open to suggestions and partnerships. :-)
Please stay in touch and spread the word!
Kindest Regards,
Patrick Twomey
