Tour the LSH Urban Farm!

LSH's green space first became a garden in 2007 with the help of neighborhood members and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS). Since its inception the garden has transformed into an urban farm through further support by PHS's Green Machine initiative and Aria Health, a local neighborhood hospital. Now with the help of the Teens 4 Good program and further improvements to the space through grants, LSH's urban farm will continue to grow and flourish for years to come!

Come for an intergenerational conversation on community gardening:
Hear from a senior and a member of Teens for Good about their experience together in this special garden.

Learn from experts in the urban agriculture community about:
  • Herb spirals (a new and efficient way to plant herbs)
  • Composting
  • CSAs (community supported agriculture)
Community gardens can provide elders with the opportunity to grow their own food, exercise, share their knowledge, and express creativity.  These gallivants build upon GenPhilly’s Germinating Partnerships event, which brought together professionals from a variety of disciplines to spark conversation and projects around elder-friendly gardens.
