Academy Alumnus Qualifies for Record Eighth Olympic Trial

A United States Sports Academy alumnus with 14 U.S. national championships in race walking has set a record as the first person to qualify for eight Olympic trials in USA Track & Field.

Dave McGovern, a race walker with an international reputation as an athlete and coach, in December qualified for the USA Track & Field Olympic trials to be held 21 February in Santee, Calif.  McGovern, 50, qualified for the 50K Olympic race walking event to earn his eighth trip to the trials.   He was previously tied with hammer thrower Ed Burke with seven appearances, according to USA Track & Field records.

Academy Alumna Named First Head Coach for Women’s Lacrosse at Northern Michigan University

An alumna of the United States Sports Academy who has experience building women’s lacrosse programs has been selected as the first head coach of the newly created women’s lacrosse team at Northern Michigan University.

Emilia Ward, of Marquette, Mich., will start the NCAA Division II NMU program from scratch with play to begin in the spring of 2017.

United States Sports Academy Alumnus and National Faculty Member Publishes Ninth Book

When United States Sports Academy alumnus and national faculty member Dr. John L. Stump suffered a stroke in 1999, his physicians told him that writing would be good therapy to aid his recovery. The chiropractor, teacher, writer and scholar took the advice to heart.

Today, Stump has written nine books – seven since his stroke – and more than 70 peer reviewed articles.  And he still continues to write.

Alabama’s Championship Victory over Clemson Voted United States Sports Academy 2015 College Football Game of the Year

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s win over the undefeated and top-ranked Clemson Tigers in the College Football Playoff National Championship has been unanimously voted the 2015 College Football Game of the Year in the United States Sports Academy’s annual ranking.

The Tide defeated the Tigers 45-40 in an exciting, closely fought game in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on 11 January 2016.

As the football world watches the historic success of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, fans have the opportunity to own a beautiful limited edition sport art poster depicting Newton’s successful run for the NCAA Football National Championship. 

“SuperCam,” a high quality poster created from an original painting by renowned sport artist Rick Rush of Tuscaloosa, Ala., is available for purchase online or in person from the United States Sports Academy Bookstore (  The poster is 24 inches by 36 inches and available in an artist-signed version for $30 or an unsigned version for $20.
