With launching of 100 smart city projects by the Government of India, water and city gas distribution utilities will also need to equip themselves with latest technologies for improved operational efficiency and successful integration into the smart city systems.
The Himachal Pradesh Government is aiming to increase its forest area by 30 per cent by 2030 and to achieve this goal initiatives have been taken up, an official said on Tuesday. Plantation campaigns are being carried out by the state Forest Department in identified places. Last year by involving 1,18,932 people, 26,47,146 saplings were planted, a government spokesperson told IANS. This campaign was run for five days and it was for the first time record saplings were planted under a campaign.
Tata Power has joined hands with EV cab operator Prakriti E-Mobility to set up 50 charging stations for electric vehicles in a phased manner. Last month, three Tata Group companies had unveiled a mega plan for the electric mobility space along with group company Tata Motors. The two companies will jointly set up 30 slow chargers and five fast chargers over a period across the Delhi-NCR, said Prakriti, an app-based EV taxi service provider in the national Capital.
India’s annual budget, announced on February 1, was long on intentions to move towards a green economy, but short on specifics. In her budget, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised an incentive scheme for around two million farmers to move to solar-powered irrigation pumps from diesel and grid-supplied electricity, but said nothing about ameliorating its effect on critically short groundwater reserves. Around 30 million traditional pumps are in use for irrigation now.
Raj Kumar Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New and Renewable Energy and Hon’ble Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship released the State Energy Efficiency Index 2019, which tracks the progress of Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives in 36 states and union territories based on 97 significant indicators. The index was released on the occasion of Review, Planning and Monitoring (RPM) meeting, which was held on 9-10 January 2020 at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, New Delhi.
Indian Oil Corp, the country's top refiner, has bought a minority stake in Israel's Phinergy and signed a joint venture deal to produce metal-air batteries, an alternative to more mainstream lithium technology. IOC Chairman Sanjiv Singh said the IOC could use its vast retail network to supply the automotive sector in India, where the government is pushing for a shift to electric vehicles to cut pollution and lower the country's fuel import bill.
India’s renewable energy capacity addition in the year 2019-20 is likely to exceed year 2018-19’s 8532.22 MW. The country has already commissioned renewable energy capacity of 7591.99 MW up to December in the year 2019-20. Another 34,160 MW is under various stages of implementation. This information was shared by power minister R.K. Singh in the upper house of Parliament. The minister added that most of the grid-connected renewable energy projects in the country were being implemented by private sector developers selected through a transparent competitive bidding process.
