India topped tenders for power generation capacity globally during the quarter ended December 31. Top issuers of power plant tenders globally for the quarter in terms of power capacity Solar Energy Corporation of India (3,000MW) from four tenders, Northern Indiana Public Service in the United States for 2,600MW from two tenders and NTPC at 2,514 MW capacity from nine tenders.

India has ranked 5th among the countries surveyed for corporate commitments to science-based targets (SBT), ahead of Germany and Sweden, according to a report by a non-profit organisation released here on Monday. The report found that investors are demanding better disclosure of climate change risk from Indian companies which has spurred better disclosure from India Inc.

Solar power producer, Azure Power, is planning to invest about $3.7 billion by the end of financial year 2024-25, the company said in an investor briefing. According to its capex forecast, it will make investment in a range between $2.6 billion and $3.7 billion from 2020-21 to 2024-25, with the highest being $9 billion in FY21. The New Delhi-based firm also said it is not entering into manufacturing but has partnered with Waaree Energies -- one of the largest solar manufacturers in India -- for 500 MW capacity and closed discussions with another manufacturer for another 500 MW.

Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co. will produce electric vehicle motors in India in partnership with Taiwanese motor manufacturer Teco Electric and Machinery, likely becoming the first Japanese company to make EV motors in the country. Teco is the world's fourth-largest industrial motor maker, with annual sales of around $1.63 billion. The Taiwanese company has also made components for Taiwan's high-speed trains. The two companies will build a 1.5 billion yen ($13.6 million) plant in Bangalore through a joint venture 40% owned by Mitsui and 60% by Teco.

AC MAX is an innovative lightweight, wall-mount EV charger with a high power output of 22 KW AC maximum that is claimed to reduce charging time by up to 70% in comparison to common 7KW AC chargers.

Indian consumers’ interest for alternate powertrain technology continues to expand as fewer people want traditional ICE for their next vehicle. According to one of the findings of Deloitte’s 2020 Global Automotive Consumer Study, consumers across geographies continue to move away from ICE vehicles. Globally, this preference for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) is led by Japan at 47 per cent, followed by India.

Gujarat was the most water-efficient state in India, according to an HT report on rankings of the survey. The survey was based on various parameters on efficiency targets and the study included the review of central as well as the state government water departments by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, the HT report stated. In the rankings, Rajasthan emerged as the third most water-efficient state. Meanwhile, the national capital stood amongst the worst states in this regard. In the rankings, seven Centre departments were reviewed, of which the Survey of India stood first.
