With an aim to join the e-mobility rally of India, real estate developer ATS Homes Pvt Ltd (ATS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Okaya Power. Okaya Electric Vehicle ChargerAs per the MoU signed, Okaya will furnish the premises of ATS on pan-India with it’s an in-house built electrical vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and solutions. The move came as the two companies recognize the importance of the development of EV charging infrastructure at workplaces, residential buildings and other premises of ATS across the country.
Close on the heels of launches by Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company, India’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp is getting ready to launch its first electric scooter Duet E. The maker of Splendor and Passion could be launching the battery powered scooter in the next few months, one of the component suppliers to the Duet E told Moneycontrol. But it's not known if the launch of the electric scooter means that the Munjal family has resolved a dispute over the use of the Hero brand. A 2010 settlement had prevented Hero MotorCorp from using the brand for electric scooters.
Solar energy startup Cygni, an Indian Institute of Technology, Madras incubatee company, is looking to break into the lucrative export markets in Myanmar and Bangladesh. The company, which manufactures solar power backup and DC (direct current) micro-grid solutions, apart from battery for electric vehicles at its Hyderabad plant, is planning to explore the offshore markets from the next 2020-21 financial year, Cygni Energy CEO Venkat Rajaraman told Business Standard here on Wednesday.
The upcoming version of the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) is expected to include new provisions to accommodate the increasing penetration of renewable energy and address the potential threats stemming from cyberattacks. An expert group has prepared the draft IEGC, 2020, which aims to “strengthen grid security and resilience with emphasis on flexibility of resources”. The group has reviewed the existing version of IEGC, implemented since 2010, “based on past experience, recent developments in the power systems, changes in market structure and the future challenges”.
BEST's fleet strength will go up by 300 electric buses, being procured for Mumbai under FAME-2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles) scheme/subsidy of the Central government. The buses, whose 10-year-contract for Rs 1,259 crore will come up for clearance at the committee meeting on Wednesday, are being opposed by some panel members. Sunil Ganacharya (BJP) said BEST must first maintain its own fleet, which gone below the mandatory 3,337 buses.
For the second consecutive time, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s transport department has found no bidders for supplying 40 electric buses, sanctioned by the central government last year. The NMC has already missed two deadlines. “Now, we have sought another extension till February 29,” said an official. In August 2019, the department of heavy industries and public enterprises had sanctioned 100 electric buses for NMC under Phase-II of faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles (FAME) in India.
EDF Renewables and its partner for wind power generation in India, the SITAC Group, have announced the commissioning of the Verdant project, a new wind farm of 105 MW installed capacity in India. Located in the State of Gujarat, one of India’s windiest regions, the 105 MW Verdant wind farm is composed of 50 wind turbines. Its production will cover the equivalent of the annual energy needs of more than 300,000 Indian households and thereby saves around 360,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
India needs to prioritise solar rooftop among residential and industrial users for achieving its 100GW solar energy target by 2022, a report said. India would need 1,000 gigawatt (GW) of solar power capacity to replace coal mining jobs, according to a recent study. With a mounting global pressure to shift away from coal and adopt renewable energy sources, ensuring that coal miners find jobs locally in other industries is now a prerequisite. According to the study published in the journal, Environmental Research Letters, there is a complete mismatch between areas in India suitable for wind power and areas where coal mining is currently happening today. “Thus, creating wind jobs is not really an option in coal mining areas in India.
Electric two-wheeler firm Ather Energy has received patent for an ergonomic, light-weight and compact charging connector to suit small electric vehicles and power banks. According to the company filing with the patent office, the connector will have a charging socket mounted on a hand-held unit, which will have an angular grip for ease of use. The application was filed in June 2017.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Wednesday said it will display a bouquet of new products and technologies at the upcoming Auto Expo - The Motor Show 2020. Making strides in CNG and Hybrid vehicles, the company will strengthen its resolve in the domain of green sustainable mobility.
