Summer is here!
The year passed by so freaking fast, I can’t believe it’s already at the end of June.
I wanted to do a quick mid-year review and highlight some of the stuff I was able to work on and some of the things that didn’t quite pan out the way I wanted it to go.
Drinking more water
This has been the goal for the past few years. I am usually mindful about drinking at least three liters of water a day, which is close to the equivalent of three 32 ounce bottles. Even though there are some days where I don’t achieve that mark, I definitely feel the difference in my body and mind when I do. I feel more refresh and alert as oppose to the sluggish feeling I get when I don’t drink enough water.
Reading less mindless articles on most days
I still struggle with this because it is a form of procrastination. When I want to avoid doing real work, I check Twitter and Facebook for articles to read that I think will help me “expand my mind” or will keep me updated on the “latest news.” But in reality, it is a time-waster because most of these articles don’t really matter to me in the end. It is something I tell myself when I avoid doing something important. Now, I try to remind myself to stop when I get the urge.
I know this easier said than done but I’m seriously trying to be more mindful when I find myself going down the “rabbit hole” of overthinking. It happens all the time- when I’m driving, reading, on my phone, you get the idea. I know these things happen to a lot of people but for me, it’s never-ending and it leads to other problems like stress, depression, and anxiety. So for the past eight months or so, I tell myself that “it is ok” and to breathe before I continue down the path of overthinking stupid things.
I wasn’t planning on going on a trip this year but I found a roundtrip flight for $250 ($350 plus I had $100 in credit card points) that I couldn’t pass up. The trip came together pretty fast and everything fell into place like the hostel off of Oxford Street, the trip up to Liverpool to watch Arsenal lose against Everton, and how I needed to get away to recharge for a week. It all turned out OK and I was able to make the trip happen with a limited budget.
Less Thinking, More Doing
I was able to put out more stuff this year and it has helped out my creativity tremendously. I have been putting out two blogs a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) as well as a podcast episode and newsletter every Friday. All of these things go hand in hand because I start off my day writing in my journal. I just write about what’s going on in my life, how the previous day went, and I gather material to put out from there. I could write five pages of nonsense but I could come up with one little thought that leads to a blog post and podcast episode.
Also, I was able to release put out some products on my new clothing brand called One Two Threads with my long-time friend and even made a little website to sell some of my random stickers on.
There are a few goals I set at the beginning of the year that I want to work on more but haven’t such as learning to play chess, learning a new language, and eating healthier. I don’t want to make any excuses like I was busy with other stuff so I am going to chalk it up to laziness. I already adjusted some things and will make a better effort to work on those things for the second half of 2019.
