Seeking Partners: iEARN Projects and Activities

Register now for the September - January session of iEARN Learning Circles

iEARN Learning CirclesLooking for a way to connect your students with global peers?  Sign up by September 15 for the upcoming session of iEARN Learning Circles, which will run from September 30, 2014 to January 15, 2015 (15 weeks with a 1-week break in December). Learning Circles are highly interactive, project-based partnerships among a small number of schools located throughout the world. There are two sessions each year, September - January and January - May. In addition to hands on support throughout the session, educators have access to a comprehensive Learning Circles Teachers Guide. To participate in an iEARN Learning Circle, educators must first register in iEARN, and then fill out a special Learning Circles Placement Form by September 20th (deadline extended).  For more information about iEARN Learning Circles, visit www.iearn.org/circles.

Registration open for 2014 Holiday Card Exchange Project

Holiday Card Exchange ProjectWant to exchange holiday cards with classes from around the world?  Classes that sign up for the project by October 31 will be placed in a group with approximately seven other schools and will prepare either handmade or purchased cards to send to each of the other schools using snail (postal) mail between October and December.  Students are invited to make Christmas, New Year's, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Eid, or other cards celebrating their special holidays, and to explain how their family and their community celebrates, the type of food that is eaten, and other traditions associated with the event.  Register on the Holiday Exchange Project Group on the iEARN Collaboration Centre.

New book and Spanish translation team for Machinto Project

Machinto ProjectBased on the books “Machinto” or "Sadako," participants learn about what wars bring us and research where little birds ”war affected children” are still crying somewhere in the world today. This program cycle, in addition to the picture book "Machinto" - Hiroshima for Peace-, the Machinto team has added a new book "My Hiroshima" written by one of the survivors.  Participants can use Machinto or My Hiroshima, or both, in their classrooms.  The team is also glad to announce that they now have translation and facilitators for Spanish speaking classes. Please join in the Machinto Project Group on the iEARN Collaboration Centre to learn more and get involved.

Global Billy Cart Grand Prix Design Challenge

Billy Cart Grand PrixThis global design challenge asks participants to create a vehicle that can move, or be driven along, a predetermined course in a predetermined amount of time without a manual braking mechanism.  By making the activity about timing rather than a race which requires the fastest, the groups will need to collaborate on testing their vehicles over and over in order that they continue to move along the course but that the winner will finish closest to the predetermined time.  Up for the challenge?  Join the Billy Cart Grand Prix on the iEARN Collaboration Centre.

Contribute Lyrics to the Hip Hop on the Spot Project

Hip Hop on the SpotThis project aims to unite young people from different countries through the creation of a collaborative musical and literary production based on hip hop, a street culture in which young people are the protagonists.  Students can post their rhymes to the Hip Hop on the Spot forum and the project facilitator will help to organize pieces of different lyrics into one full song and re-post to the forum.  Each participating student or team is invited to capture photos and videos of themselves singing part of the lyrics and post it on the forum for the project facilitator, who will make a complete music video using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements software. The video will be released in Brazil at the 2015 iEARN Conference and Youth Summit.  Participants are also encouraged to post narrative or descriptive text about themselves as artists, and/or about local hip hop artists in their community, which will be compiled into a collection representing hip hop culture around the world. Get connected in the Hip Hop on the Spot Project Group on the iEARN Collaboration Centre.
