Hip Hop on the Spot Project announces new producer - get your lyrics ready!

Hip Hop on the SpotRose MC, facilitator of the Hip Hop on the Spot Project, announces that producer ELLYPRETORIGINAL in Brazil will be producing the instrumental rap for the project.  Join Hip Hop on the Spot - an effort to unite young people from different countries by means of a collaborative musical and literary creation through hip hop, a street culture in which young people are the protagonists.  Classes from the USA and Taiwan have already signed on.  The final production and video are being planned to be ready in time for the 2015 iEARN Conference and Youth Summit in July.  If you would like to join the project and receive the instrumental rap to add your lyrics to, please post a note in the Hip Hop on the Spot Project Forum as soon as possible.


Join the Talking Kites Around the World Project and fly kites on March 21

Talking Kites Around the WorldJoin students from around the world on and around March 21st in an annual tradition of making and flying kites with personal and group images of dreams for a better world, a world of co-existence, tolerance, acceptance of the "other" and peace. "It is important in today's political climate that we express to the world that peace is within our grasp," said Adi Yekutieli, founder of the 10,000 Kites Project. Yekutieli, an artist, says he envisions "organized groups a wide spectrum of groups, adults, children, Israeli, Palestinian, citizens around the world coming together and each person will hold aloft a kite which he or she has decorated, as a symbol of dialogue, brotherhood and understanding of the other side. Each participant will be flying a kite with his or her thoughts, fears, dreams, and hopes."  Kites will be flown on the March Equinox.  The project is dedicated to Janusz Korczak, who advocated for the rights of children.  See a short Animoto video of the project, and get involved on the Talking Kites Around the World Project page.


Invitation - Hello World! (Third Skype Session) on March 22

Hello World!Hello World! Is an idea that aims to connect youth with each other using video chat.  The Third Session topic will be: What is Happiness?  In this session, we will go through some common definitions of happiness, as we share our thoughts and methods to reach such a level.  Date: March 22, 2015. Time: 12:00 pm GMT & 4:00 pm GMT. Place: Skype. Each session will last 3 hours. 10 iEARNers can participate in each one hour. The second hour will invite another 10 iEARNers. My Identity, Your Identity Project

My Identity, Your Identity Project - AlgeriaCheck out a recent blog post from iEARN@lgeria (iEARN-Algeria) coordinator Kheira Mezough about her students' experiences in the My Identity, Your Identity Project.  As part of a Diversity unit, classes connected in the project, collaborating with participants in Romania, Oman, Taiwan, Cameroon, the USA, Indonesia, Mexico, Senegal, Pakistan, Iran, Tunisia, Yemen and Belarus.  Participants learned about cultures of the world, and shared their culture with global peers and with their own school community, showing not only their technology, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills, but also how Algerian culture can be integrated into language learning in a fun and motivating way.  See the full blog post HERE, and join them and other project participants in the My Identity, Your Identity Project.


My Name Around the World Project

My Name Around the WorldJoin students from Saudi Arabia, Belarus, Australia, Palestine, the USA, Russia, Pakistan and Japan who have posted recently in the My Name Project.  Students are invited to share the meaning of their names with the world through writing, drawings, and other visual representations, and to learn about their global peers through topics such as naming traditions in different countries, different meanings of names, and famous people who have shared these names.  Please take a few moments to read their contributions, and give them your encouragement and positive comments on the project forum.  See a short Animoto video about the project and get connected in the My Name Project forum.

International Intercultural Mural Exchange 2015-2016

Hello World!IIME is an international collaborative learning program that enables schools in Japan and schools overseas to engage in interactive learning on a shared topic using ICT and to jointly produce a single mural (1.5m x 3.6m sized picture) as their learning outcome. IIME is a global project where 28,780 students from 57 countries and regions have participated. Application period: April 1st - May 31st 2015. Implementation period: September 2015 - March 2016. Target: Elementary, Secondary, High Schools, and College. Number of acceptance: 100 schools / classes. The eLearning Africa Survey 2015 

eLearning AfricaIn May, the 4th edition of the annual eLearning Africa Report will be published  [earlier reports can be found here]. The Report features the findings of a comprehensive survey into the impact of technology on education in Africa.  Organizers are looking for responses from a wide variety of people from many different sectors, including education professionals, students, policymakers, politicians, administrators, managers, investors, health professionals, agricultural workers and entrepreneurs. Survey on Instructional Technology in Global Initiative Classrooms

SurveyA team of researchers at Indiana University in the USA is researching primary through secondary level (K-12) teacher global education practices to learn about how primary and secondary teachers are using technology in their instruction to address global and multicultural education. (The study is being conducted by Dr. Curtis Bonk from Instructional Systems Technology Department, School of Education at Indiana University Bloomington and his graduate student research team.) If you are an educator involved in global education practices, please consider taking 15 minutes to complete their survey: http://www.surveyshare.com/s/AYA9T6D to help others learn from your experience with iEARN and global project-based learning. Survey respondents may also be invited for optional interviews.

2015 International Youth Summit in Hyogo, Japan, March 26-28

2015 International Youth Summit in HyogoThe 2015 International Youth Summit in Hyogo will be held from March 26-28, organized by iEARN-Japan (JEARN), and hosted in Hyogo prefecture as a 20th anniversary memorial event of the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake.  The event will focus on international cultural exchange and global disaster prevention, and will take place at the Nichii Gakkan Kobe Port Island Center, Kobe Center for Overseas Migration and Cultural Interaction, Hyogo Prefecture Maiko High School. 10 Years of iEARN in Austria Celebration, July 5-10

2015 iEARN Conference and Youth Summit in Brasilia, Brazil, July 26-31

iEARN 2015 Conference and Youth SummitiEARN-Brasil (Educadores Globais) will host the 2015 iEARN Conference and Youth Summit in Brasilia, Brazil, July 26-31, 2015. 

The theme of the 2015 conference is Reframing ICT: Inclusion (What if all students really felt included?), Cross-Cultural Communication (What if youth around the world communicated to engage in collaboration?), Transformation (What if every school had projects to make the world a better place to live?).

Deadline extended for workshop proposals - apply by March 31 to present.

The Annual iEARN Conference and Youth Summit, held in a different country each year since 1994, is a unique opportunity for educators, students, administrators, Ministry officials, and non-profit and corporate partners, to meet and discuss how they are using technology to build global understanding and enhance teaching and learning. In addition to educator and youth led workshops, the event also features cultural excursions, cultural nights, and presentations by Ministries of Education, businesses, and educational organizations working in the field of global education and virtual exchange.

We encourage all who want to use technology to make their education programs more global to join this global gathering. 2015 iEARN-Taiwan Winter Camp, February 4-6

2015 iEARN-Taiwan Winter CampFrom February 4-6, over 100 young people (80 participants including Taiwan students and NSLI-Y students from the United States, plus 22 volunteer university students) gathered in Kaohsiung for the 2015 iEARN-Taiwan Winter Camp to share iEARN project ideas and collaborative plans for making a positive impact in their local communities and the world.  Check out a video of the event on YouTube and see more photos on the iEARN-Taiwan Facebook Page.


Natural Disaster Youth Summit 2015, Toyota City, Japan, January 15-18

NDYSFrom January 15-18, the Toyota Disaster Prevention Festa committee and Natural Disaster Youth Summit (NDYS) Committee hosted the "2015 Natural Disaster Youth Summit in TOYOTA" in Toyota City, Aichi, Japan.  Participants from eight countries gathered for the event.  As part of the Summit, participants made a school visit to a Junior High School in Toyota City, made oral presentations about their research, exhibited their Disaster Safety Maps, and discussed the contents of the NDYS 2015 Declaration.  On January 17, students adopted the NDYS 2015 Declaration at Noh-gaku Do, which is a traditional Japanese style theater.  The next NDYS gathering will be held in Niigata, Japan in August 2016.  See more on the NDYS website and join the discussions in the NDYS Project Group on the iEARN Collaboration Centre.
