Tuesday, October 16th was an exciting day for Beverly Roberts, Executive Director, Laura Schwingel, Dignity’s Board Chair, Vanessa Tercero, Director of Program Operations and staff as they celebrated the official opening of Dignity Housing’s Resource and Opportunity Center.  On hand for the ceremony was Congressman Chaka Fattah and U.S. Representative and Eighth District City Councilwoman, Cindy Bass.  The Resource and Opportunity Center, which is located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, will provide activities, educational supports and resources for Dignity Housing residents as well as a place to enhance their technological skills, Congressman Fattah helped Dignity secure a $190,000 grant from HUD’s Economic Development Initiative to renovate the space which had been damaged by flooding several years ago.  In his remarks, Congressman Fattah, a long time advocate and supporter of Dignity, stated that “Ending homelessness is a priority for the Obama Administration and for all of us who care about the vitality of our city – and Dignity Housing has been in the forefront of that effort for 25 years…..”  (to read more about the ribbon cutting….
Congressman Fattah was also recognized and presented the “Champion of Dignity Award” for his continued support of the organization’s program and mission.  Ms. Roberts stated “We are so appreciative of the support we’ve received from the Congressman and are very excited about the Resource and Opportunity Center and the services it will provide to our residents, and community”. 

Resource and Opportunity Center will provide:
  • Adult Education & GED Classes
  • Computer Skills Development
  • After-School Homework Help/Tutoring
  • Life Skills Workshops
  • Employment & Training Sessions
  • Family Fun Activities
  • Women & Men's Support Group Meetings
  • Field Trips
  • Community Volunteer Opportunities
  • Mini Job Fairs

Dignity is proud to be part of the Freedom Rings Partnership.  The Keyspot program is a coalition of local service providers striving to help all Philadelphians, regardless of background or economic means, make full use of the Internet.  Communities are built on the open flow of information and more computer access throughout Philadelphia will result in a more connected and dynamic city.  Getting, and staying, connected gives your community more tolls to find jobs, services, news and resources.  Dignity's Keyspot is located at 5227-R Germantown Avenue, Phila, PA  19144.  The site is open to the public Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm; One-On-One training is available Mon, Wed, and Friday 12pm - 5pm; Coming Soon--Basic Computer Classes.
