Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalms27:14
We are so excited to announce we will be returning to Colombia to begin our next four-year term on Sunday, June 21st! We have spent more time than we originally expected, but if there is one thing that we have learned in all of our years of missions, it is that our time, our deadlines and our expectations are not always the same as what God has in mind.
We were convinced that at the absolute latest we would be back in Colombia by the end of May. June was jam-packed with plans. When it was clear towards the end of May that we weren't going to make it, we were perplexed, distressed even. Unsure of how long we would have to wait, when Alex returned from college, we decided to pack up and head to Michigan to spend time with family, trusting that our permission to leave would come together quickly. We felt confused about why it didn't work out for us to be in Colombia "on time". In the middle of the night on June 3rd we received the call that Corey's father had passed away. Suddenly, there was no doubt as to why we were still here. If we had been in Colombia, we would have been preparing for a team, working with three interns. We would have had to scramble to find a way back and alternate plans to cover our responsabilities.Instead, it was already taken care of and Corey was able to spend precious time with his mom and siblings that never would have been possible if we had already gone.
The morning after we received the news of Corey's dad, we received the final email of clearance stating we could purchase our tickets and return to Colombia. We couldn't deny that God's timing is so much more perfect than ours. He sees the big picture, He knows what's to come and He knows when He needs to hold us back just a little bit longer. If you've been waiting for an answer, a next step, direction - hang in there. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
