Chancellor's Forum
Philadelphia's Proposed Sugary Drink Tax Presented by the Bar-News Media Committee

The proposed Philadelphia Sugary Drink Tax would add a 3-cents-per-ounce tax to all sugary drinks sold in Philadelphia. For proponents of the tax, it's a way to fund much-needed services such as universal Pre-K, community schools and major park renovations. It may also address certain public health concerns if citizens think twice about the purchase of sugary drinks, which can lead to increased health problems, particularly for those living in poverty. For critics of the Sugary Drink Tax, it's an additional financial burden to Philadelphia businesses that will be passed down to consumers. This discussion will feature experts in the tax field, business leaders and City representatives who will speak to the issues of tax policy and how to raise needed revenue to achieve fiscal stability that will support critical programs and services for the citizens of Philadelphia now and into the future.

Additional panelists to be announced.
