POP SYMPOSIUM 2016:

WITH JOHN CALE, GENESIS BREYER P-ORRDIGE, AND MORE !

Montreal, September 1st, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Montreal, September 1st, 2016 - The POP Symposium is a music conference, but not the boring kind! This year POP Montreal's long-standing, artist-driven conference presents its signature mix of artist keynotes and conversations, industry panels, skill-building workshops, and one-of-a-kind talks on subjects ranging like outer space, music cognition, and marijuana! The majority of events are FREE, open to all, and take place at the festival headquarters of POP Montreal (POP Quarters).

The POP Symposium continues its tradition of keynote conversations with some of music’s most influential and defining voices. Legendary Welsh musician, producer and co-founder of The Velvet Underground John Cale comes to POP Montreal! In addition to his headlining festival show at the Théâtre Rialto - Salle St-Ambroise, Cale will give a keynote artist talk at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), presented in conjunction with the museum's exhibition Focus: Perfection
– Robert Mapplethorpe, where Cale will discuss his storied career and the heyday of New York's avant-garde. The legends don’t stop there. Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, founding member of COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, joins us for an intimate conversation at Never Apart. A true iconoclast through the ages.

As usual, the POP Symposium offers a slew of industry panels, creative workshops and networking opportunities aimed at helping artists get ahead. Fast-rising Montreal producer and recent Fool’s Gold signee High Klassified will offer audiences an inside look at his studio techniques and the nuts and bolts of making beats. Industry heavyweights Geoff Travis (Rough Trade Records) and Danny Holloway (Ximeno Records/Blazing 45s) will also be on hand to talk shop, as well as Susan Rogers, Prince’s sound engineer-turned-scientist! Other topics range from social media strategies to getting booked understanding copyright law and more.

This year, the POP Symposium also joins the podcast era with live public broadcasts of several events, open to the public, including the first Montreal edition of The Combat Jack Show, hip hop’s biggest podcast. Stay tuned!
