Thanks to our Crew for the
West African Music Event with
Tani
:
WOW.  What a great event! The weather cooperated, the food was delicious, the local entertainment was impressive, and when the West African music filled the air,  people jumped onto the dance floor and boogied for hours.  Not only did we have a genuinely good time, we raised a little over $2,000.00 too!  A huge thank you
to the following people for making this happen:

Paula Grenier- Co-coordinator, shameless advertiser (did you catch her antics at the Farmer's Market?), dancer
Jim Hallberg- Head cook, making a traditional African stew and donating a lot of the goods to boot
Erin Varney, Barbara Danner, Halle and Mike Polle (the speed demon)- Veggie choppers
Ray Kolenko- Money Taker, Gate Keeper
Kathy Lofton- Food transporter and help with clean up
Jane Kouba- Brownie maker
Shane Kouba- Lights and sound (a big job, very well done!)
Jim Kouba- Donated the light and sound equipment
Jack Corbin assisted Shane, also, Justys Grenier
Cecilia and Daniel Kouba- set up and take down
Dan Burke and Jim Schaller- Beer servers ALL NIGHT (Dan stayed to clean up too!)
Susan Townsley, Arlo Townsley, Shawn Nadeau, Sarah Mayer, Apple Corbin, Heidi Burke, Joan Tromp (Susan T. wins extra points for working most of the night!)- Food servers
Jerry McGeorge- OV delivery, beverage organizer, money collector, general errand guy- a huge help!
Jackie Kolenko, Misa Grenier, Connie Vanderhyden, Ella Lawless- African Dancers
Jackie and Misa- Sang a lovely song "Rafiki"  and Jackie, solo dance performance
Dodie Whitaker- Choir director for YIHS (Dodie did this on her birthday, and was awesome!)
YIHS Choir (Many students, plus Shawn L and Jacob H)- Sang three songs with very little rehearsing and rose to the occasion with style and grace
Mike Horan and Paul Grenier- Tipi set up, ticket sales
Karen Dahl- Tipi Raffle sales (yes, we actually sold some tipi tickets!)
Kay Fandel and Karen Pothen- OV ticket sales
Brie Lamers- Clean up and brownie sales
Harmony Valley and Driftless Organics- Veggie donations
Organic Valley and Organic Prairie- Chicken and milk donations
Viroqua Food Co-op-  ticket sales

Finally, all of you who showed up, ate, drank, and made merry:
It was a great way to start off the parent fundraising and if by chance I forgot to mention anyone, my apologies.  Thanks so much,-- Susan Nesbit

And, of course we all say Thank You!
to Susan Nesbit, Coordinator and parent fundraiser extraordinaire.

Meteorology Field Trip
On Thursday, Sept. 22 the Grade 11 Meteorology class will be making a field trip to the National Weather Service station on Grandad's Bluff, near LaCrosse.  We will be leaving around Noon and returning about 3.  We need at least one adult driver and a minivan-sized vehicle to make this trip.  Please contact Jacob if you can help!

College Admissions Visitor
A representative of Cornell College will be coming to visit YIHS at 3 pm on Tuesday, October 4.  Parents and students are invited to come and learn more about this distinctive block-system based liberal arts  college located in Mt. Vernon, IA.  YIHS alumni Eva Pitsch and Henry Hundt are currently attending Cornell.

The Whole Plate nutrition & cooking project  will go on the road again soon. Dawn and Shawn will be attending conferences near and far to demonstrate our amazing curriculum, and they are looking for donations of airline miles to defray travel expenses. Contact Shawn (shawn@yihs.net) or Dawn (dawn@rotochopper.com) if you can help.

Harvest Celebration and Parade, 2011
Help build the 2011 Viroqua Harvest Puppet Parade! No experience necessary!
The Viroqua Harvest Celebration & Parade is building puppets for this year's parade every Thursday afternoon, starting around 5 p.m., at the back door of Driftless Books in Viroqua. All ages are welcome--come prepared to get messy and have fun. (Parade day is Saturday, October 8.)

(YIHS parents are planning to have a food booth at the celebration in October -- and they'll be raffling the tipi, above.)
