2011 YIHS Camping Trip
and Orientation Week

Planning Meeting -- Tuesday, August 16, at 7pm

It's time to plan our back-to-school camping trip!  This year, the trip will take place from Monday, August 29 - Friday, September 2 and will include a bike trip, food, group games, discussions on the history and philosophy of YIHS, a student meeting, an orienteering expedition, swimming, one night of camping outside of Devil's Lake State Park, and more.  All parents and students are encouraged to attend a planning meeting on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 pm in the YIHS Student Lounge so that we can finalize details.  We will need to figure out transportation, assign meals, select tents, and talk about group rules.  All enrolled students are expected to participate in the trip, and this year we are requesting that at least one adult from each family participate for a day and night, if at all possible.

We look forward to seeing everyone there! If you have any questions, please contact Jacob Hundt at jacob@yihs.net or call (608) 637-6445.

Harvest Celebration and Parade, 2011
Help build the 2011 Viroqua Harvest puppet parade! No experience necessary!
The Viroqua Harvest Celebration & Parade is building puppets for this year's parade every Thursday afternoon, starting around 5 p.m., at the back door of Driftless Books in Viroqua. All ages are welcome--come prepared to get messy and have fun. (Parade day is Saturday, October 8.)

We're also looking for a few items to help make this year's parade a success. Can you donate any of the following?
--old latex house paint, any color
--functional casters
--old sheets/large pieces of fabric

(YIHS parents are planning to have a food booth at the celebration in October -- and they'll be raffling the tipi, above.)

Attention Student Artists!
The Driftless Area Art Festival is sponsoring a teen level exhibition for the first time. If you are a teen, you are eligible to enter! Here are the steps:

1) email Anne Tedeschi (tede@mwt.net) your name, address, phone, age and school affiliation.

2) produce ONE art work that is ready to be hung up or displayed (if sculpture or another medium).  Your work must have your name, age, affiliation & phone affixed to the back or the bottom of your work, which should be wrapped and be accompanied by the form below. You may use any art work you have done in the last two years.

3) deliver it to the Soldiers Grove Fair Grounds on Friday afternoon, September 16th  OR, if it is more convenient, deliver it to the VIVA Art Gallery in Viroqua on Main Street by September 14th for me to pick up.

There will be a $50.00 award for Best-in-Show and an honorable mention: both winners will be featured in the window of the VIVA Art gallery in Viroqua for the month following the festival. Registration forms are available at YIHS!

Thanks! -- Anne Tedeschi
