All School Meeting
At our All School Meeting on Tuesday, along with inspiring speeches and entertaining presentations, we elected two new members to our Board of Trustees.
Tom Vanderhyden has taught our Native Cultures class since the school's inception and brings a broad perspective to our organization. Ray Kolenko is a new parent who brings expertise in Facilities, that is, both building-related facilities and facilitating positive ways for students to express themselves. Welcome new Board members!
We bid a humble farewell to outgoing members Adrian Ugo and AnnaJo Doerr. We are grateful for your outstanding service to our school.
Welcome new staff member!
We are pleased to announce that we have hired Dave Hibbard-Rode as our Development Assistant and Camping Trip Coordinator for next year. Dave will be stepping in while Shawn Lavoie spends a year at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dave brings a wealth of talent to our school community. He has been working with teens for 6 years through Camp Widjiwagan out of Ely, MN, leading trips from 5 to 40 days long. Dave also organized a political campaign for Nathan Blumenshine who ran as an independent Respect platform candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives. Dave has connections to Waldorf education/Anthroposophy through friends and through service work he has done on a biodynamic farm in Argentina. He says that what has drawn him to Waldorf education and YIHS is support of what he cares most about in education, "to foster growth, confidence and self-awareness to the extent that people make full and conscious decisions about how they live."
Dave spent a full day at YIHS last month, he is excited about working at our school and we think he will be a great fit here. We are planning a send-off/welcome party for Shawn and Dave in the later part of July, date TBA.
Parents, please visit this link to sign up for a pledge meeting for 2012-13. More days/times will be posted soon. If you have a specific request, please contact a member of the Finance committee to set up a meeting: Dawn Hundt, Susan Townsley, Jan Rasikas, Halle Pollay, AnnaJo Doerr.

Take home a House Plant!
Yes, our plants will miss all the activity that happens during the school year, and would like a little more human companionship for the summer, not to mention more moderate temperatures than our steamy third floor space. Please stop by if you'd like to bring one home.
ACT PLAN scores
Attention parents of students (Freshmen through Juniors) who took the ACT PLAN in April. Scores have been sent home via US mail.
