YIHS receives new cookware from
Partnership for a Healthier America
YIHS is grateful to have just received $2,000 worth of cookware that will be used for our Foods and Nutrition curriculum.
We received this set as part of a program called Chefs Move! to Schools designed to encourage chefs to get involved with their local school disctricts and work with teachers, parents and administrators to help educate children.
The Partnership for a Healthier America is a nonprofit, nonpartisan convener across the private, nonprofit, and public sectors to accelerate existing efforts addressing childhood obesity and to facilitate commitments toward First Lady Michelle Obama’s national target.
The Classic Holiday Desert - Apple Pie!
All of the Gluten Free pies are sold, but thankfully there are still traditional Apple-Maple Pies available. They make the perfect potluck presentation for upcoming holiday parties. They also are the ideal way to finish off a Christmas meal! They are 100% organic, can be frozen for months, and taste fantastic: what could be better?
Please tell your friends to help support YIHS by buying one of these delicious pies.
$15.00 ~ call Jenny Cain at 608-606-0572
to order your pie today!
A heartfelt Thank You
goes out to Rick and Peg LaMartina. As Rick prepared for his recent passing, he earmarked his large format, professional printer to be donated to the Youth Initiative.
Rick's beautiful nature photography is visible all over the region, and his work and life have been inspirational for so many of us. His generous donation will help take the Youth Initiative photography program to a new level. We are very lucky to have known him, and very grateful.
More Thanks to:
- Annie Bussiere for speaking with the senior class about Warren Wilson College and the Woolman Semester,
- Silas Hundt for speaking with the seniors and senior parents about financial aid and Alltuition.com,
- Nan Marshall for speaking with the seniors about Sterling College.
- Adrian Ugo for working on facilities projects at school.

Annoying toys needed for robotics class
Next month YIHS will offer an elective block on robotics and we are asking (begging?) for a few noise-making electronic toys. Those plastic presents from beloved Aunt Bezelda which make really annoying sounds would be perfect. We're only interested in the internal electronics. If the original features (motors or plastic bits) are broken, we can still use them. Also, we could use four Remote Controlled cars. Small and cheap are ideal. We only need the cars, not the controllers (the extra box with joysticks or steering wheel and an antenna). Note that these won't be returned. They will be ruthlessly hacked and repurposed for (mostly) educational purposes.
