Mike Davies and Fox Sports Team Ready for UHD/HDR History

Super Bowl LIV is only days away and with it a new era in Super Bowl broadcasting will begin: the UHD/HDR era. Make no mistake about it: a UHD/HDR Super Bowl, and which network would be the first to air it, has been gossip fodder since the first 4K sets hit the CES show floor, and for good reason: the event is a bellwether for the entire move to UHD and HDR.

And Fox Sports has brought an ambitious operation to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. Mike Davies, SVP, technical and field operations, Fox Sports, takes you inside the compound and the stadium to highlight some of the major technological developments in place for this year's Big Game. From the first Super Bowl in UHD/HDR to four 8K cameras contributing to the show, and an impressive array of aerial cable cameras, Super Bowl LIV promises to be a feast for the eyes.

SVG On Demand: Fox Sports’ Rod Conti Gives a Tour of Network’s South Beach Campus

Three studios, two demo areas, two tower structures filling 9 acres of production and support workspace piloted by more than 350 production, technical, and support staff: Fox Sports' studio activation in South Beach is a television achievement. Rod Conti, VP, operations, Fox Sports, gives a tour of the sets to explain how his team prioritized providing a "sense of place" for viewers at home through various tools, a commitment to achieving a clean look free of excessive cabling and prominent PA speakers, and an impressive design from set-design partner Filmwerks.

ESPN Expands South Beach Presence to Meet Programming Needs

Broadcasting from South Beach is nothing new for ESPN given that it has studios at the Clevelander on Ocean Drive. And Super Bowl LIV has upped the network’s presence across the city as it has two studios in Lummus Park across from the street from the Clevelander, and two studios on Radio Row at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The network’s activities culminate at Hard Rock Stadium for the game itself with pre-game and post-game coverage.

Canon 8K Efforts Expand in Miami

Canon Broadcast has a team of seven people on hand for the Super Bowl. The team not only is making sure nearly 55 HD and UHD lenses are operating at a top level but also has a role in the use of three Canon 8K lenses that are coupled with Sony UDC-8300 cameras to give the Fox Sports production team an even greater ability to extract up-close images.

Quantum To Begin Trading on Nasdaq, Returns to Profitability in Fiscal Q3

Quantum has announced that the company's common stock will begin trading on the Nasdaq Global Market beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 3 under its existing symbol, QMCO. In addition, the company revealed financial results for its fiscal third quarter (ending Dec. 31, 2019), showing a significant improvement in operating margin and a return to profitability for the first time in more than four years.
