By Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director
In the fourth year that NBC Sports has provided coverage of the 148th Open Championship to U.S. golf fans, 350 people on hand in the small seaside town of Portrush, Northern Ireland, and production teams in Stamford, CT, and Orlando delivered the coverage via Golf Channel as well as NBC stations across the entire country.
BBC Sport Captures Open Championship Highlights from the Biggest Sporting Event Ever in Northern Ireland
By Fergal Ringrose, SVG Europe
The 148th Open Championship took place this past weekend in Northern Ireland. There to catch the unfolding action was BBC Sport whose television commentary team is still led, astonishingly, by 88-year-old Peter Alliss — one of only two surviving golfers to have competed the last time The Open was held at Royal Portrush. By Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director
The last time the Open Championship was played at Royal Portrush was 1951, so it gave some fresh energy to the CTV OB and ETP Production teams. And the effort saw some firsts for the production, including the compound’s location on a beachside parking lot and the compound’s shutdown due to serious flooding caused by biblical rains during a setup day.
