Live from the US Open: ESPN Takes First Step Toward IP Future

The 2019 US Open marks the end of an era for ESPN and the USTA as next year the technical infrastructure will make the leap from SDI baseband to IP. The SDI technical core this year, once again provided by Gearhouse Broadcast who oversees the technical aspects of the operations, is being put to good use by more than 400 production personnel one last time.

The dawn of a new football season brings with it another wave of innovation from the team at ESPN. The big addition to this year’s technology lineup will be the introduction of new and improved versions of the network’s Line To Gain Pylon Cams and Marker Cam (which is a camera embedded inside the top of a first down stick).

College Football Kickoff: BTN Adds More Slo-Mo, Revamps Animation Package, and Expands BTN Tailgate

Since launching in 2007, Big Ten Network has continued to enhance its coverage of the conference's gridiron action, adding new production elements to its game coverage, expanding its on-campus studio presence on Saturdays, and creating award-winning documentaries as part of it BTN Originals series. That evolution continues tonight, as Big Ten Network kicks off its 2019 football campaign with UMass visiting Rutgers followed by a quartet of games on Saturday.

College Football Kickoff: Pac-12 Networks Attacks Live Games, On the Road Pregame Show With At-Home Production Model

Although a Pac-12 Conference program may have already logged their first football game of the season on the airwaves of Pac-12 Networks (a non-conference matchup between Kent State University and Arizona State University last night), the bulk of the 2019  schedule is still fresh, untouched, and without a blemish. Building off of the inaugural season of The Pregame, the conference’s College GameDay-esque initiative, all 12 campuses will once again be graced by the show. In addition, headquarters back in San Francisco will further deploy their at-home production model on numerous games throughout the year.

Yankees Team Up With Sinclair, Amazon to Reacquire YES Network

The New York Yankees have officially partnered up with Sinclair Broadcast Group and Amazon to purchase YES Network from The Walt Disney Company, acquiring the 80% of the regional sports network not already held by Yankee Global Enterprises at a total enterprise value of $3.47 billion. Additional equity investments were provided by RedBird Capital, funds managed by Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities business, and Mubadala Capital. Jon Litner will also remain in his existing role as President of the YES Network.
