ESPN Upgrades Sunday Night Baseball Production to 1080p; Boxing and LLWS Are Next

ESPN is officially charting its path to a 1080p future, beginning with Sunday Night Baseball. The network, which has been producing Monday Night Football in 1080p since 2013, transitioned its marquee MLB series to 1080p with the Dodgers and Red Sox matchup at Fenway Park on July 14.

More than 300 media-asset–management (MAM) leaders from major broadcasters, leagues, teams, OTT outlets, and vendors convened this week at the Westin New York at Times Square to share first-hand perspectives and behind-the-curtain looks at their respective workflows. The day-long Sports Content Management Forum covered a wide range of pressing topics, from the current state of MAM and archiving to cloud and virtualization, AI and machine learning, and object-storage and next-gen–storage technologies.

Sky Sport Summit Munich: Soccer Becomes the Binding Agent as Sports Rights Begin to Fragment

Soccer is a multi-billion dollar business, but the TV landscape is changing. In Germany, the time in which only one broadcaster held all the rights passed us by. The Federal Cartel Office fragmented the sports rights by implementing a No Single Buyer Rule for the tender of the audiovisual exploitation rights from season 2017-18 onwards. At the Sky Sports Summit Munich, executives discussed how the sports is keeping itself together in trying times.
