Welcome to Inspire Learning
Teaching School Hub

In this edition: ECF roll out continues apace, status quo as we await confirmed call off contracts on NPQs and there are some updates from the DfE on changes to the Online Service. All of this is detailed below.

FOR URGENT ATTENTION - ENSURE YOUR SCHOOL INDUCTION TUTOR AND ECTs ARE REGISTERED FOR THE FULL INDUCTION PROGRAMME

As previously referenced, all schools should have received the letter from Minister Gibb relating to the “golden thread of support that teachers can draw on at every stage of their careers”. He refers to  Delivering World-Class Teacher Development  within the letter, citing Teaching School Hubs as “essential to the success of these reforms”.

ECF update

ECF roll out continues apace and we have been inundated by schools signing up to work with us.

For schools who have not yet signed up:

Schools urgently need to decide how they will ensure that their Early Career Teachers (ECTs) receive the statutory programme of support based upon the Early Career Framework (ECF).

We are pleased to be offering the Full Induction Programme for all schools in Liverpool and Wirral. Please watch the recording of our webinar ECF Information webinar if you require general information or contact Andy Ash or Jane Kennedy with specific questions/for assistance with your next steps.

You can express interest in doing the Full Induction Programme with us by filling out the form on this page.

For schools who have recently signed up:

A significant number of schools across Liverpool and Wirral have already signed up. We are in the process of confirming places and drawing down the funding to support this essential area of teacher development. Please look out for an email from Natasha Waters (natasha.waters@stjohnbosco.org.uk) which will contain a ‘confirmation of intent’ for you to complete and return.

NQT+1

5% time off timetable

Please note the following information is being issued on behalf of the Department of Education.

In June the Prime Minister announced next steps in the government’s plans to boost education recovery.

In recognition of the challenging initial teacher training and induction newly qualified teachers (NQTs) have experienced, all state funded schools that currently have an NQT who is due to complete induction this summer will have access to a one-off payment to further support the development of this cohort.

Schools with NQTs due to complete induction this summer will have access to funding for the equivalent of an additional 5% off timetable for next academic year so these teachers have additional time to invest in their development. This time off timetable is not statutory but it has been designed to be used flexibly so that as many new teachers as possible can benefit from this additional support.

  • Time off timetable can be grouped together in different ways, for example, taken as whole days or half days.

  • Schools will be able to access DfE-accredited development materials based on the Early Career Framework for this cohort to use during this time off timetable.

  • Schools will receive this funding in the summer term of 2022. Funding will be based on School Workforce Census returns.

To find out more information on this additional funding, please visit gov.uk

NPQ Update

****Breaking news****

The Department for Education has confirmed the availability of full scholarship funding for colleagues in schools meeting the eligibility criteria. In such cases, the NPQ scholarship would cover the entire cost of the qualification.

The NPQ suite has been reformed in line with other changes to key frameworks supporting the recruitment and retention strategy. All qualifications have revised content and modes of delivery as well as new assessment models that deepen understanding based on evidence of practice and implementation. In essence, the new qualifications position leaders at all levels to effectively deliver the required improvements on key areas of their role.

In addition to leadership qualifications for Executive Leadership (NPQEL), Headship (NPQH) and Senior Leadership (NPQSL), there are new specialist NPQs available for Leading Teaching (NPQLT), Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD) and Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC) which replace the NPQML

To find out whether your/your school/staff are eligible for the scholarship and for which programme, please complete the expression of interest for (Link here) or contact Ciara O’Connor ciaraoconnor@inspirelearningtsh.co.uk

We are now recruiting primary schools to take part in this project!  If you are interested in exploring the impact of Covid-19 on children's language, education and socio-emotional development over the next three years please get in touch at ICICLES@niesr.ac.uk

What you need to do..

Of key importance:

Schools should have received an email from the DfE inviting you to sign up to their new online service. This will ask you the details of your Induction Tutor and to select how you intend to deliver the Early Career Framework.

Steps to take if your school hasn’t received this

DfE Sign-in support request –

https://help.signin.education.gov.uk/contact

https://manage-training-for-early-career-teachers.education.gov.uk/

There are different options that schools can take, one of which is the fully funded Full Induction Programme.

or email continuing-professional-development@digital.education.gov.uk for support

  • Register your interest in finding out more about the revised NPQs using the link above.

  • Subscribe to receive our newsletter and other communications. Feel free to share the details within your wider networks.

  • Let us know if there is anything you are aware of that is a local need that we can work collaboratively to meet.

Previously, an Induction Tutor email address could only be associated with a single school, whereas it can now be associated with multiple schools.  Any school that has not yet nominated their Induction Tutor because the email was already used by another school in their trust or federation, can now nominate them. They can do this by clicking on the link in the recent DfE invite they were sent, or by generating a new link at https://manage-training-for-early-career-teachers.education.gov.uk/

If a school nominated someone else in proxy and would like to take advantage of the new feature, they simply need to contact the service helpdesk at continuing-professional-development@digital.education.gov.uk  and let them know:

  • The Induction Tutor name
  • The Induction Tutor email

URNs and school names of each school the Induction Tutor is to be nominated for.

Please circulate this newsletter amongst your school and wider networks. To be kept informed about the most up to date developments, please sign up to our mailing list on our website https://inspirelearningtsh.co.uk to find out more.
