SOB's FUTURE ROOTS Series, kicks off on Sunday, October 9th, with global genre-busting Colombian artist making his NYC-debut, PERNETTand the ringmasters of NYC's biggest party celebrating a sound coined as "Tropical Bass," Que Bajo's UPROOT ANDY + GEKO JONES.  This 'Tropical Take-Back of Columbus Day', doors are at 10 PM and tickets are $10 (available on Ticketweb).

Pernett Live

To kick off SOB's FUTURE ROOTS Series, straight from rich musical tradition of coastal Colombia, is PERNETT.  A pioneer of a sound he's dubbed 'folclor progresivo'(translation: progressive folklore), Pernett's endless experimentation with Colombia's folk music and electronic music has influenced a whole generation of artists who have taken their sound global: artists like Bomba Estereo, Chocquibtown and Sidestepper (which he was a touring member + collaborator for some time).

Pernett recently played host to Uproot Andy + Geko Jones while they toured Colombia, forming a unique transnational exchange and camaraderie which the guys from Que Bajo!? have cited as a huge inspiration.

Que Bajo w/ Pernett, Uproot Andy, DJ Geko &  De Barranquilla
Doors: 10pm
Admission: $10

It's no mistake that the first night of SOB's FUTURE ROOTS Series kicks off the night before Columbus Day (and not just because most folks don't have work the next day!)  While celebrated as a Holiday, under-taught are the atrocities which were brought upon indigenous communities across Latin America/Caribbean and subsequent slave trade as part of the discovery of 'The New World.'  What's resulted centuries later is a beautiful mixture of endless sounds which have influenced contemporary music to this very day, everyday.  Sounds like: SALSA, CUMBIA, SON, GUAGUANCO, CHAMPETA, SON, TANGO, BACHATA, PORRO, CORRIDOS, BULLERENGUE, TIMBA...not even the tip of the iceberg.

Voted by Time Out New York as one of NYC's Top Latin Underground Parties, Que Bajo!? brings FUTURE ROOTS to every international dancefloor they hit, from Berlin to Bogota to Brooklyn: "The melting pot of digital cumbia, dancehall, Afro-flecked house and more results in a bump ’n’ grind groove that the ladies can’t get enough of."
