The project emerges out of a traumatic yet profound accident suffered by Esther last year. It left 32% of her body, scattered with 3rd to 4th degree burns, 5 fractures and a brain injury resulting in amnesia.  Esther chose to document her experience of recovery through creating a set of compelling self-portraits.

Though the artist has been representing herself in front of the lens since 1997, her recent work unveils another layer, helping us to get closer, urging us to question our understanding of beauty through her response to her body. This set of new photographs courageously demonstrates beauty and vulnerability; a visual dialogue between destruction and construction.

The images will be exhibited in one of the locations used for her self-portraits. The rooms show an intimate landscape and resonate a sense of connection to the disturbing event which the artist cannot recall. The careful placement of this work within the space, takes the viewer deep into the setting of Esther's work.  The Building is a recently completed project by architects Shenkel and Zudini.
