Happy Independence Day from Gallery 270

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.” - - Alexis de Tocqueville

In these challenging times that we are living, I’ve found it helpful and comforting to look back at our history, and to the words of our most visionary and thoughtful leaders, who’ve helped guide us thus far, in the ‘noble experiment’ of our country’s founding. The word “experiment” itself, indicates a process, not a static state, and an acceptance of change as a vital part of “becoming a more perfect union”. Though often messy and difficult, change never allows for an “arrival” at the proverbial  “shining city on a hill”. This ‘city’ is a construct and mindset rather than a physical place attained, and only achieved by the process of working out, and then through difficulties. We are always on the journey, “repairing our faults” guided by wisdom, hope and the knowledge that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice”. The purest expression of patriotism that can manifest in each citizen is the single minded drive to “form a more perfect union”, written in our country’s founding documents.

On this Independence Day 2020, Gallery 270 salutes beautiful minds with imagination; artists of all kinds lighting our path to that shining city on the hill, the original aspiration of our founders and all those since inspired to stand up and die for our birthright of justice freedom, equality and a way of life honoring those original aspirations, still held deeply in our collective minds’ eye and moving us forward.

Gallery 270 wishes you and yours a happy and safe 4th of July weekend!

Thanks to everyone who visited us at the Gallery 270 booth at Photo L.A.! The first-ever “virtual” fine art photo fair, Virtual Collect + Connect had exhibits by over 70 international galleries who specialize in photography. Augmented by programs given by leading museum curators, art history scholars, artists and experts in the field. Thanks to those who wrote back and told us how enjoyable and informative it was for you. Some had some issues with the app and software involved, so for those who didn’t have the opportunity enjoy the show, we have managed to bring you both the Gallery 270 booth at the link below and also a link to all the booths. The 2D show is also on our website and soon on our Artsy site.

Gallery 270’s 3D gallery booth “The 21st Century Handmade Photograph: 120+ Years of Silver Gelatin Prints” displays thirty-two handmade silver gelatin prints of various types showing their evolution over the course of more than a century from artists Edward Steichen, Leonard Freed, George Tice and Michael Massaia.
