FANIE'S LAST PARALYMPICS IN RIO!

We are VERY proud of Fanie who will be competing at the Rio Paralympics for the third and last time! He will be competing in the T37 100m. Round one of his 100m will be on the 10th of September and the final will be held on the 11th of September.

After we watched Fanie on television at the 2012 Paralympics in London we decided then and there that we will be in the stadium supporting him for the next Paralympics. We have been saving for 4 years and we are so excited that myself, Jami, my parents and my older brother and his wife will be in Rio screaming our lungs out for Fanie!
"And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." (Heb. 12:1)
Athletics for people with disabilities by Fanie
Visiting schools
Rhenish Girls' High sent off the Stellenbosch athletes who will be taking part in the Paralympic Games in Rio. Thank you to all the learners and staff for your support!

Our team also visited Stellenbosch Laerskool and AF Louw Primary School.

I had the priviledge of opening asembly at Pioneers School for the Blind.

SSA flags in Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch Sport Ambassadors (SSA) put up flags in the streets of Stellebosch as a means to show support to the local athletes who will be competing at the Paralympic Games.
Farewell Function
The Department of Sport and Cultural Affairs in the Western Cape held a farewell celebration for the Paralympic athletes. We had a great time celebrating together!

I2B club dinner
During one of the I2B day tours Jami and the kids started talking about the type of foods they like. The discussion ended with a dinner date at our house 2 weeks later! Seven of our I2B club members from Zola/Nomzamo came for dinner and afterwards we watched some skating and skimming DVDs. We had such a blast and totally forgot to take a group photo of everyone - we did however remember to take a photo of the table beforehand!

Repair work after second tragedy
As many of you might know, we had a second tragedy hit the skatepark about 2 weeks ago when strong winds destroyed parts of the park. Just after the tragedy hit, one of our previous volunteers, Ulrich Beukes, came back from Namibia. Here he is painting the top of the skatepark container that lost its wooden cover.

The response of people wanting to help after they heard about the damage, is overwhelming and we are extremely grateful to each and everyone who offered to help. The total cost of repairing what was damaged has been covered and we look forward to upgrade the park into a more family friendly environment.

Godfrey and Ulrich managed to move the heavy ramp (that was moved by the strong winds) back into its position.

Stellenbosch High School Volunteers
Some learners from Stellenbosch High School came to volunteer at the Cloetesville I2B club as part of a school assignment. They managed to fix up a small ramp and they also helped to clean the tennis courts where our future skatepark will be built. Well done, team!

The Cloetesville kids couldn't wait to start skating the fixed-up ramp!

Educational Therapy by Jami
Visiting Houtbay
I visited Sentinal Primary School in Houtbay to see how this little learner is doing with the home program I gave them. The learner is part of a program called "The Hangberg Educational Trust". Please go and have a look at their website to see the wonderful work that they are doing.

Therapy at Raithby
Sometimes children find it a challenge to stay focused and to sit still. And so... some intervention is needed! I found that having a visual reward system is a great way of maintaining their attention.

This system seemed to work very well and all the grade 3 learners managed to get 5 ticks for listening well and sitting still. See how proud they are!

I am very proud of the grade 2 learners who have shown great progress in the Phono Graphix program. Well done, children!

CSA - Christian Skaters Africa by Chris
CS Namibia Tour 2016
During the school holidays we did a surf, skate and skim missions trip to Swakopmund for a week. Christian Skaters and Surfers teamed up with Element Riders from Swakopmund to do the following events:
Surf clinics

Surf contests

Skim clinics

Skim contests

Skate contests

Some highlights of the tour:
- Christian Skimmers (part of Christian Surfers) did Bible studies as part of the skim clinics.

- We even did a Bible study in the water and one kid gave his life to Jesus.

- Two of the local girls, who have been part of the surfing outreach, decided to get baptised at the end of this year's tour.

- We had a surf movie night at Shofar Church and I could pray with a guy afterwards about his marriage and his relationship with his son. God did some awesome miracles the very next day! This showed me again how REAL God is and how much He cares about us.
