September Newsletter

Dear Readers,

Opportunity! Who would have ever exclaimed this word the first time we heard about COVID and lock-down? We have all been impacted by the pandemic, some more drastically than others. To many, the pandemic meant a change in norms; for others, a new norm; and for others, an opportunity to grow and thrive against all odds. As a chapter, we have grown during this time. We transitioned into the virtual world. We had our meet and greet meetings, webinars, and council meetings virtually. Agnes launched an amazing mentoring and leadership development program. Zohra recruited the team she will work with next year and they are already making a difference. Bob and Jennifer are working on expanding the sphere of influence of our chapter, and many other growth signs. When faced with challenges, resilient people rise and thrive.

Stay curious, stay healthy, and above all, stay strong!

NTLSC Corporate Sponsorship Program

If your company markets to technical communicators, please consider asking them to participate in our Corporate Sponsorship Program, which is described below.

The North Texas Lone Star Chapter (NTLSC) draws members from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. NTLSC members are writers, editors, graphic artists, web content managers, usability experts, consultants, information managers, educators, and students. NTLSC is currently working on extending its virtual reach to include the neighboring states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico and to have deeper relations with area university technical writing programs.

NTLSC provides professional expertise, core skills, and the latest technologies and trends to technical communicators across North Texas. NTLSC offers monthly webinars and workshops on key topics in all aspects of technical communications including live presentations, networking happy hours, and (after quarantine ends) social events that educate, connect, engage, and entertain NTLSC members.

We invite technical communication companies and local area companies to support NTLSC’s efforts to better serve our profession and grow the chapter’s future with a tax-deductible contribution. In exchange, there are direct benefits for your company detailed in the corporate sponsorship program brochure:
  • Your company's logo display in the sponsors sidebar of our website at http://stcdfw.org/
  • Logo/tagline link to your corporate website
  • A post about your sponsorship to all 5 of the NTLSC social media sites
  • An hour-long webinar on vendor-specific services presented to NTLSC chapter and to STC members throughout the world
  • Your company name included in listings and e-mail announcements for NTLSC event promotions
In addition, after live meetings resume, there will be the following benefits for sponsors:
  • Distribution of your literature and handouts at NTLSC events
  • Displaying your sign at sponsored events and NTLSC awards celebrations events (excluding workshops)
  • Complimentary tickets to the NTLSC awards celebration
  • Recognition of your company's sponsorship in the NTLSC Awards Celebration program

NTLSC Mentoring Program

Building a diverse community to carry on the legacy of technical communicators is important to strengthen our chapter’s growth while we continue to serve our local DFW community.

The North Texas Lone Star STC chapter has launched a mentoring program to support students and new technical communication professionals easily transform their careers goals through meaningful networking and volunteering.

Our program offers three mentoring tracks: Project-based, Non-Project based (Advisory only), and Leadership Development.

Through this program we hope to provide one-on-one mentoring support for our thriving community while embracing both structure and unstructured activities such as – gaining hands on chapter experience, reviewing resumes and projects, building an online presence (LinkedIn, website etc.), strategy for career portfolios, leadership development, and much more.

However, to ensure our success, we need more volunteers who can serve as mentors.  Any STC member can be a mentor. You don’t have to be affiliated with our chapter. If you have some time to spare, please consider joining us in this effort.  It takes a village to build a legacy.

If interested, please contact me directly at mentoring_leadership@stcdfw.org.
