Call for Mentors

The ICA welcomes applications from mid-career and senior records and archives professionals from around the world to serve as Mentors for the New Professionals Programme. The Mentor commits about 4-8 hours a month to liaise with and support a New Professional over the period in which the New Professional is considered active. We welcome applications from any ICA members – working, volunteer, or retired – who have an interest in supporting New Professionals. These mid-career professionals can offer advice on archival and records management questions and also on more practical career matters, such as planning career moves, applying for positions, and identifying opportunities for further training. Full details are available at www.ica.org/en/mentoring-programme.

CIAP celebrates International Archives Day

The Interinstitutional Commission of Chiefs or Managers of the Central Public Sector Archives (CIAP) was created in 1989 with the main objective of strengthening the archives of public institutions in Costa Rica, through participation, training and projection activities archival Currently, it is composed of approximately 80 Archive managers, who meet once a month to analyze topics of interest for the Costa Rican archival development.

The last June, CIAP held a special session as it celebrated the International Archives Day, in commemoration of the establishment of the International Council of Archives on June 9, 1948. Within the framework of international celebrations, CIAP joined with the hashtag #ArchivosparanoOlvidar (spanish phrase) in order to remember the work done by archivists as well as the importance of archives and document management for the development of society. This year, the theme of International Archives Day was "Archives: Governance, Memory and Heritage".

The activities carried out by the commission began with training for members in the area of digital preservation and electronic document management systems, afterwards a snack was shared with the attendees and we finally joined together to photograph the commemorative hashtag for the celebration.

Also, in the course of the day, through our facebook page we share photographs of the activities that were carried out in the different institutions that form part of the CIAP, among these activities stand out the exhibitions of documents, games about the archives, among other.

The importance of celebrating the international day of archives is to remind society of the value of documents and information; Therefore, we must take advantage of this celebration to raise awareness of the leading role of the archives and show the world that professionals in the Archive are guarantors of the fulfillment of rights, such as access to information.

Editor's note: if your school, employer or professional organisation participated in International Archives Day, you are welcome to submit photos to the ICA here: https://www.ica.org/en/send-us-your-photos

Virtual Exhibition: the ICA turns 70!

The ICA has recently reached a significant milestone: its 70th birthday! To celebrate, members have put together a virtual exhibition which includes submissions from established members of the ICA. The Virtual Exhibition highlights 70 years of International Influence by the ICA. Organized by the ICA Secretariat, it opened on the 9th June to coincide with International Archives Day. The first stage of the exhibition highlights records from the ICA archives, with the second stage from 10th June making way for a collaborative exhibition. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the collaborative exhibition by submitting their memories about ICA using this form  https://www.ica.org/en/ica-70-virtual-exhibition-form

You can click through the exhibition to see photos and read stories of key figures and events in the ICA's history. What could be more fascinating? We are archivists, after all!

Call for September Newsletter contributions

Theme: Open Theme!

Unfortunately, our last theme of "Pitching Your Ideas" did not result in any relevant articles being pitched, but we did hear from new professionals who have other ideas to contribute to the newsletter. To celebrate the wide range of work and interests of new professionals around the world, we have decided to throw open August's newsletter theme and ask for submissions on any topic of your choice. The only condition is that it must be related to archives in some way, but we hope you will send us all your ideas so we can showcase them in a bumper issue.

We welcome contributions from new professionals on any topic related to archives, so if you have any stories or advice to share with other new professionals, please get in touch!
