Creek Restoration Design Survey Open!

On Monday, November 15, Minnehaha Creek Watershed District joined developer Alatus and City of Hopkins at a neighborhood meeting to share designs for the redevelopment and restoration of the 325 Blake site.

Attendees were able to review the current approach to restoring the stretch of Minnehaha Creek at this site to help manage stormwater, create more recreation opportunities, and enhance connectivity with the Minnehaha Creek Greenway.

If you didn't make it, we're keeping our survey open from now through Sunday, November 28. Please let us know what you think!

The survey is also available in Spanish and Somali

The restoration will complete a missing link in the Minnehaha Creek Greenway, a decade-long effort to restore the creek and connect a system of green space and trails around Minnehaha Creek to the surrounding community. In September, the MCWD Board of Managers approved schematic designs for the creek restoration project spaces.

Current designs include:

  • Gateway to Minnehaha Creek at site

  • Stormwater management areas

  • Recreational trail

  • Trailhead and overlook

  • Areas for active and passive uses

  • Nature-based play areas (image above)

Feedback received this fall will inform updates and continued project design, with a project open house for the community coming in early 2022.

About this Project:

The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) is leading an effort, in partnership with the City of Hopkins, developer Alatus, and numerous public and private partners, to transform a former industrial site at 325 Blake Road into a vibrant space where people and nature thrive together.

The 325 Blake Road Restoration and Redevelopment project is an effort to marry two sets of goals:

  • The restoration will complete a missing link in the Minnehaha Creek Greenway, a decade-long effort to restore the creek and connect a system of green space and trails around Minnehaha Creek to the surrounding community.
  • At the same time, MCWD is working closely with the City of Hopkins and Alatus to integrate a transformative, transit-oriented redevelopment into the site.
